Welcome Friends,
This is the home of happy/healthy adult bassets that produce happy/healthy basset puppies. We Live on about one acre, where the adult dogs get to run and exercise daily in a large fenced yard. When not exercising, they are in their 10' x 20' kennels which are covered with a steel roof, and contain their doghouse inside a weather-proof enclosure. Moms and dads of quality puppies are fed high -quality food, up to date on all shots, vet-checked yearly, and given regular heartworm and flea preventatives.

When you add a new companion to your family from here, you can be assured the puppy was loved and cared for very well from the time it was born. Within three weeks of giving birth, the mama is brought indoors, and she and the puppies are kept indoors ,unless weather permits some outdoor exercise, until the pups are weaned. For the health and recuperation of the adult females, they are only bred once a year.
Puppies bought here come with their first set of shots, regular wormings, vet-checked, and CKC or AKC registration application. Puppies are handled from birth and are very used to being cuddled and pet. Toenail trimming is begun within the first three weeks, so the pup adjusts to having that done too.
Breed Profile:
Country of Origin: The Basset Hound ('Basset' derives from 'dwarf') was bred at St Hubert's Abbey in medieval France to trail game. They were bred for sharp noses and short legs to be able to squeeze in under thick foilage, but were not meant to run at fast speeds, so as to prevent them from scaring game away or outrunning human companions. They were especially suited for rabbit hunting. Basset Hounds grew in popularity when Napoleon III kept a few as pets, and became known internationally during the 1863 dog show. They were subsequently brought to America in the late 1800's. Today, they are a popular pet and remain admired pack hunters. Some American cities, such as Buffalo and New Orleans, have actual Basset Hound focused festivals and competitions, even crowing King and Queen Bassets. Famous Basset Hounds include comic strip character Fred Basset and the logo for 'Hush Puppies' brand shoes. Also, Elvis's song "Ain't nothing but a hound dog" referred to his Basset Hound.
Size: Basset hounds have a shoulder height of 11-15 in. and weigh 45-65lbs. They are famous for their deep, emotional brown eyes. The Basset Hound has loose skin over the eyes, very long , low ears, thick bones, and a large, domed skull. Basset Hounds have a slightly curved tail and very large, round feet under strong, wrinkly legs.
Coat: The Basset Hound has short, dense, smooth, shiny hair. Any hound color is acceptable; white with brown and black markings is common (tricolor). Basset Hounds shed constantly.
Character: The Basset Hound is independent but sociable, calm, patient, and playful. They are extremely kind and easygoing. They are very fond of their master and family. The Basset Hound can be a bit stubborn and food is usually near the top of their agenda. They have a deep bark and become single-minded while in pursuit on the trail. It is hard to look in one's soft, melancholy face without wanting to give it a hug.
Temperament: Basset Hounds are excellent playmates for children and get along great with dogs and other animals. Children should not be allowed to sit on or stress the dog's back or pull it's ears. The Basset Hound is a very social creature and does not like to be left alone. They may tend to drool.
Care: In addition to removing dead hairs with a firm brush when the Basset Hound is shedding, it's great big ears must be kept clean to prevent infection. It's toenails should also be trimmed regularly. Obesity in long, short dogs such as Basset Hounds can lead to back and skeletal problems. Basset Hounds are susceptible to GDV (bloat from excessive gas), which requires immediate attention. To avoid obesity and GVD, spread out meals as much as possible and do not overfeed. Basset Hounds live 10-12 years and have 6-10 puppies;large litters occur frequently.
Training: Basset hounds must be trained with consistency and patience. You should make the process active and engaging to keep them interested. Basset Hounds may forget to obey when a snack reward is not present. Bassets are known for being difficult to house break.
Activity: Bassets do not require much exercise, but they tend to get excited and energetic once taken outdoors. They should be taken for short walks or allowed to play in the yard. Basset Hounds can live happily in an apartment.

Upcoming Basset Hound Puppies.
The cost of a puppy Varies between $1200 and $1700.
Puppies are able to go to their new home at the age of Twelve weeks.
The adoption process begins with the family filling out, and submitting, a puppy application, along with a $500 (non-refundable) holding
fee. This ensures your spot on the list is held. The puppy application is on a page of this website. This fee is included in the total price of the puppy. I do ask questions of the buyers prior to taking a deposit on a puppy. I need to feel confident the puppy will be properly treated and cared for before placement. To place a puppy on hold, once you choose the pup you want, I ask $500 as a nonrefundable deposit, along with a signed contract. The contract is on a page of this website. The total cost of a puppy ( including the holding fee and the deposit) Varies between $1200 and $1700. The remainder of the cost of the puppy is due on or before pick up. I ask for cash only if final payment is at pick up.
Puppy choices begin when the pups are one week old. I contact the family who is first on the list, and once they make their choice, I continue down the list for the litter.
From the time you choose your puppy, until the day it's able to go home with you, I send you updated pictures, and progress reports, and answer any questions you may have about how your little one is doing. If you are local, or want to visit with your puppy prior to the pick-up date, I welcome that. For health reasons, I do restrict direct contact with the puppy until it has been given it's first shots and vet-check--typically done at six weeks of age.
Note: Puppies will be registered with either AKC or CKC. Registration papers will be mailed to the family once I receive proof of spay/neuter. This needs to be in the form of a letter, or letterhead, or copy of paperwork from the vet that performed the procedure.

Along with the application, there is a NONREFUNDABLE application fee of $25. This fee holds your spot in line for a puppy, and allows me to know you are serious about adding a puppy to your family. I accept US postal money orders, payment via PayPal (along with a 4% transaction fee), or cash, if paying in person. Once the pups are born, and you've made your choice, a $500 NONREFUNDABLE deposit is required, along with the signed contract (look on the contract page). Review the contract, and ask any questions you may have, prior to submitting the application.
