Rica! She loves deeply as you can see in these clips. She knows her name and comes when she hears it. She loves special treats. She has many many friends of all kinds. She knows to get in pools when she is too hot. She asks to go in her house at nighttime or if it’s raining she asks to stay in for the day. She is nonjudgmental except for when her human needs to brush her hair😂. She is kind. She is sentient. She is intelligent. She is family. Two years ago, before Rica found her way to the sanctuary, she was just a few short weeks away from being a centerpiece on someone’s table for Thanksgiving dinner. Why would anyone want to honor her or any other turkey in this way when you can see how much she enjoys life and wants to live. It’s never too late to start showing compassion for turkeys and leave them off your plate. It was 15 years ago today that our cofounder and president took one look at the centerpiece of family gathering and said “no more. I will no longer contribute to the death of turkeys.” For that dinner she had bread & a salad. It was not her sacrifice, it was her gain.
