Bailey can get a bit obsessed over small sticks and other debris she finds on the ground. She will try to eat just about anything she picks up and her “drop” is getting a ton of work. Teaching her a “heads up” behavior to give her other opportunities to earn reinforcement because sticks aren’t a good group!
Her obsessive behavior tends to increase as her stress levels increase and we’re hoping some other layers of training will help with her relax a bit:)

Awesome time today working with Chase and Maddie!! 🙌 We've been teaching Carol how to train Maddie and the results are in… they're great!

Chase is one of my amazing "walk and train" dogs where we do all the hard work together. But here's the best part - either option works!

Today, we pushed our limits and got as close as 18 (ish) feet, and guess what? Both dogs (and Carol) did really well. It's great to see their progress and dedication paying off.

A huge shoutout to Chase, Maddie, and Carol for their hard work and determination! You guys are rockstars! We don’t have any certificates but they have all leveled-up!

🐾🐶 Walking with dogs like Heisman is always an adventure! 🌟 Heisman may be easily spooked, but that doesn't stop us from having fun:) Instead of giving him tons of instructions, we empower him to make his own choices and reward him like a superstar when he nails it! 🏅🎉 Who else has a brave but oh-so-lovable pup? Share your stories below! ❤️🐾 stressed

🐾🏠 Good boy, Charlie! 🌟

We're thrilled to share a heartwarming moment with all of you today. Our furry friend, Charlie, has been working hard on his training and we couldn't be prouder! 🐶💪

Instead of barking or jumping, Charlie has learned to make the best choice when he's excited. He's now choosing to go to his cozy bed! 🛏️🐾

It's incredible to witness this transformation and see Charlie's dedication pay off. By redirecting his energy to his comfy spot, he's showing us all that positive reinforcement and training truly do work wonders! 🌟🎉

We're grateful for the trust and patience Charlie has put in us throughout his training journey. We couldn't have done it without his commitment and the support of his wonderful humans. 🙌❤️

Let's give a round of applause for Charlie and his fantastic progress! 🐾👏 If you have any questions about positive reinforcement training or want to share your own success stories, feel free to drop a comment below. We're always here to help! 🐶💕

Been on 3 walks with Thunder and he’s making me change my game plan! He is hyper-vigilant outside and orients to any new sights and sounds. He will eat while out but getting his attention is quite the challenge!

Last week I had some success with looking for him to “soften” his body posture and then click/reinforcing this “state”. Took the whole walk but, by then end, he was responding to the click in this softened state about 90% of the time. Not too shabby Thunder!

I’m using freeze-dried liver/chicken as reinforcers and I think I’ll hold off on giving him some higher value stuff until I have a longer reinforcement history.

Yesterday, I used the same strategy but, when I waited him out just a bit when he was in that softened state, he started looking back at me…click/reinforce! He caught on to this pretty quickly and this became my new criteria for reinforcement.

I love having these training steps established as I can fall back on them when we start introducing him to more challenging situations/distractions. Dogs like Thunder may only give you small openings or opportunities to reinforce and, when they do, you kinda have to jump on it and build up from that point:)

We have to talk about Bruno! My new friend tends to react “energetically” to people coming into or going out of the home. He is very quick to react and, if really stressed, will nip. We’re 5 sessions in and he’s making progress! Our plan:
👍Condition a marker word or clicker
👍Teach some impulse control behaviors
👍Identify as many of his “triggers” as we can
🤞desensitize those triggers- working on it…but there’s a lot:)
👍train alternative behaviors- Bruno loves the mat…now!!!
🙏test him in as many situations as possible…slowly!
🤞build and maintain trust-so far so good:)
👍cheer on the owner! She’s new to training and she didn’t necessarily get an easy dog:). Patience is important.

Key with a dog like Bruno is to go super slow. Small approximations where we can keep him under threshold(not overtly reactive) are working!

My dog Zack has the right idea!! Been on a few “walks” today and it is crazy cold out there! Be safe!
- Short trips outside for bathroom breaks. Wouldn’t hurt to reinforce your pups well for going outside as this weather is going to be here for a few days!
-Booties will help if your pup will tolerate them. Paw wax works well too!
-Pet safe salt is more expensive but your pups will appreciate it!
-Utilize feeder/puzzle toys, practice recall work inside for exercise and why not do some fun trick training:)

My new buddy Thunder!! First session of many with a goal of making him more comfortable while out on walks. Thunder tends to bark at other dogs that well over 500ft so we have some work to do! Conditioned the clicker today and taught him that turning towards me is a good thing:) We worked inside and we’ll hit the open road next session🤞🤞🤞

My new friend Maisie! She’s been in her new home for a few weeks and is learning how to trust. She’ll only let one person take her out so we’re working on getting her comfy with others so her mom can go to work! Even in a still shot you can still see that happy tail:).
