Let's clear some things up...
BENEFITS OF GARLIC FOR DOGS
* boosts immune system
* supports gut health
* repels biting insects
* improves natural detox
* prevents blood clots
* anti-tumor
* natural antibiotic, antifungal, and antiparasitic
I do not recommend garlic being fed to puppies (I avoid at 6 months and younger), pregnant dogs, and dogs with an anemic health condition.
Garlic isn't a requirement.
"BENEFITS" OF RICE FOR DOGS
We were told that rice soothes the gut while adding essential nutrients to the diet. And I was recently told that rice has nutrients that support skin and coat health.
The truth is that rice is a filler food (IMO) that is difficult to digest. Rice is a high glycemic food that leads to blood sugar spikes.
A few better options to soothe the gut include...
* pureed pumpkin or sweet potato
* carrots
* bone broth
A few better options for skin and coat health include...
* salmon oils
* sardines, mussels, other fish
* bone broth
* MCT and coconut oil
Over the years, I've learned to research what I'm doing from time to time, so I understand WHY I make the choices I do for my dogs.
This helps me better articulate what I'm doing with other dog owners and my veterinarian. And I'm also exposed to current information.
