Update on Jack Jack!
“Radiographs look unchanged which is good since he’s now in a less supportive cast - happy about that; did some blood work and that is also good - no evidence of issues with infection or other system malfunctions that could be associated with medication / stress etc.; only bad news is we needed to remove his epidural - didn’t like the way the entry site looked - had a bit of local infection - and we didn’t want that to get deeper - so we’ll see how his comfort is without it. Mostly good news in my view. Pleased with how the fracture looks - too early to see much in the way of healing on radiographs, but the fact that everything is remaining in place without evidence of any instability or infection is encouraging.”
Update from Dr. Glass
“Good afternoon!
Jack Jack is continuing to do well. He walks very comfortably and is wearing his cast well. His attitude is mildly improved on his reserpine, but he continues to be quite the handful. He had mildly adjusted his support limb shoe (wooden clog), so we reset it yesterday and secured it a bit better in place (you’ll see the cast material around that shoe in the video to follow).
We took 2 week post op radiographs yesterday, and things look good so far! We are still early in the healing process, but things being stable at this point is a very good thing.
Dr. Watkins and I head out to teach at an AOVET course for the reminder of the week. We will have a team here keeping a close eye on him and keeping us on the loop.
AOVET is the organization that helped to develop the use of this implant for Jack Jack’s specific fracture!
We are still on track to replace his cast and remove his stitches next Tuesday.”
Update
Update:
“Still walking very well here. Wearing the cast well. No new concerns as of now. We are going to continue a slow taper on his bute dose, down to 1/2 g twice a day. We are thankfully, in a period of cruise control at the moment. The next big event happens at his first cast change. We expect that will be at 3 weeks from surgery, week after next (the week of April 11). “
