Inclusion is a human right.

This , we affirm the inherent dignity, humanity, and belonging of every LGBTQI+ person around the world. The Trevor Project and Outright International know that our q***r, trans, and intersex community, especially LGBTQI+ young people, face barriers to achieving their basic human rights. According to The Trevor Project’s 2023 U.S. National Survey, 60% of LGBTQI+ young people reported that they have felt discriminated against in the past year due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. According to Outright International, 68 countries and territories still criminalize LGBTQI+ people and only 36 out of 195 countries recognize same-sex marriage.

We know that inclusion is a human right — and it’s lifesaving. Because when inclusion happens, trans youth report lower su***de risk. Inclusive policies protect us and keep us all safe; our human rights are all affirmed.

This Human Rights Day, we commit to creating a world where all LGBTQI+ people are safe from violence and discrimination, respected for who they are, protected by law, and included in all aspects of life. Join us in making inclusion a reality. Because human rights are LGBTQI+ rights.

November is Native American Heritage Month — a time to reaffirm our solidarity with Two Spirit and Indigiq***r youth everywhere. 🧡

A 2020 survey on health care access by the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) found that finances, lack of mental health support, and lack of support groups for Two Spirit and LGBTQ+ communities were the top three barriers to care for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) Two Spirit and LGBTQ+ young people.

A recent national survey of AI/AN folks who identified as transgender found that half of respondents reported a negative experience within a health care system related to their gender identity, including being verbally harassed and being victimized by SA.

This month, The Trevor Project is proud to partner with the Indian Health Service to amplify our resources and share the lived experiences of AI/AN youth.

While we each know our personal impact of the election results and can empathize with others, we cannot fully understand how others are feeling or the struggles they are experiencing. Please extend yourself grace so you can extend that same grace to others who will desperately need it.
