Dogs are a daily part of our lives. Setting up puppies for success should be the top priority of every breeder.
This usually means a breeder should prioritize matching the best temperament suited for a family rather than assigning puppies based on color or other physical traits.
I’ve had a lot of interest in this litter, specifically in Prince (the blue boy), so I wanted to talk a bit about my puppy placement process.

Most people reach out to me via email or social media. While a lot of questions can be answered by my website, I am happy to answer questions via email or PM! I am trying to stay on top of replies right now, but I am not great at replying to emails and PMs when I don’t have a litter.

If we seem like a good fit for each other, I will direct you to fill out an application. This is mostly a formality, but it helps me get an idea of what you want in a dog and the environment the dog would be living in. These puppies are the result of years of studying pedigrees, attending shows, and planning breedings. I put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into raising them and I want them to go to the home that is the best fit for them.

Once your application is approved, and I have a litter on the ground, I require a deposit to hold your spot. This is to cover my time spent planning and screening buyers. I have had many interested parties back out last minute, which is not fair to me, the puppy, or others that I said no to because the puppy had a potential home.

Puppies are placed based on temperament. All border collies are high energy and quirky, but some are more so than others. If you are wanting an active pet and I send you home with a high drive, high arousal puppy better suited to a sport home, you will be tearing your hair out. Vice versa, I do not want to send a lower drive puppy to a sport home only to have them not be suited to the work. Often I may have 2 puppies that are similar and I will let the buyer choose, but that is not something that will occur until they are 8+ weeks old.

This is all leading up to my main point: I do not place puppies based on color. Everyone has color preferences and I try to keep that in mind, but I will not assign a puppy to a home based only on its physical appearance. I am still waiting on a few applications and deposits from interested parties, but the individual puppies will be assigned to buyers at 8 weeks, not several days after birth. 🥰
