Busy this week, so doubling up on organic preventative AND fertilizer!

Coffee grounds can be used for initial pest control, including fleas and ticks. The strong scent of coffee is off-putting to many insects, including fleas and ticks, so using coffee grounds can help deter them.

I will be following up with 100% Organic All-Natural Food grade Diamateous Powder to spray around the kennel, kennel eves, house perimeter.

I use decaffeinated coffee grounds, just in case, as caffeine is not good for animals.
I create an approximate 2” barrier around the outside kennel building, around the perimeter of the house, shake it around the plants.

From a fertilizer aspect, coffee grounds contain nutrients like nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus, which are beneficial for plant growth, as well as help improve soil structure and drainage.

Tip of the week.

Have your pet micro-chipped. And register your information in the microchip registry.
I use AKC ISO microchips. The reasons are simple.

When a pet goes missing, AKC Reunite sends emails to the Reuniters’ Network, which is a group of pet lovers, veterinarians, shelters, and rescuers in the area where the pet was last seen.

• Reuniters Network
When a pet is reported missing, AKC Reunite sends an email to the Reuniters’ Network with a description and photo of the pet. The email also includes the contact information for AKC Reunite’s 24/7 Reuniters’ Helpline.
• Primary and Alternate Contacts
When a pet is found, AKC Reunite sends emails, texts, and calls to the primary and alternate contacts listed on the pet's enrollment record.
• Lost Pet Alert
When the Lost Pet Alert service is activated, AKC Reunite sends emails to the Reuniters Network. The Lost Pet Alert service can be activated by calling AKC Reunite's 24/7 Reuniters Helpline at (800) 252-7894.

To improve the chances of reuniting with a lost pet:
• Microchip your pet
• Enroll your pet in AKC Reunite's lost pet recovery service.
• Have current pictures of your pet.
• Include at least one alternate contact on your pet's enrollment record; I recommend not a vet. Have a contact that will answer a call after hours or on weekends.

Middle TN Friends, this year we will be volunteering with Wreaths Across America to help lay wreaths and participate in the wreath ceremony at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.

Too hot to really train; with an afternoon heat index values of 105 to 109 degrees expected…what to do to keep dogs and puppies busy?

Get up early to take care of dogs, get dogs out early when it is cooler (or not so hot!). Tracking before 8 AM, unusual for me as I try to rotate times and conditions for tracking.

Back home, let dogs stretch out and take a break before heat really kicks in.

Dogs are moved into A/C location for the heat of the day.
Later in day, in shaded part of the property, I work on foundation obedience and focus.

Keep it simple……
