🌷 Scout says: Come tiptoe through the tulips with me! 🌷

Sadly, Santa couldn’t find Scout his forever family this Christmas, so this sweet boy is still looking for a place to call home. While Scout will always be family to us at Solstice, we know he’d thrive in a loving home of his own.

🐾 What makes Scout special?
•He did excellent for his detection work evaluation
•he’s Super versatile and has showed potential in a wide variety of areas such as service work, detection, therapy work, retrieval work, Detection work,
And even potentially a facility dog in the right home.
• Scout loves other dogs but can get overstimulated in larger groups, so a home with fewer dogs is ideal. He currently lives with dogs of all sizes and adores them!
• He’s a huge wiggle-butt, snuggle-bug, and all-around love bug.
• Scout would love a family that’s home often or can bring him along to work—he’s even a great candidate for facility work!

🐶 What Scout needs:
• Lots of love and attention—he’s not a dog who can be left alone for 12+ hours without stimulation.
• A family that can help him channel his medium-to-high energy with proper outlets to maintain his training and his solid off-switch.
• someone familiar with managing dogs that have extreme toy drive.
• Someone willing to let him shine—his trainer says, “Scout is one of the smartest dogs I’ve ever worked with. He may have some puppy moments, but you can’t help but laugh!”

Scout is incredibly versatile and could excel as a service dog, therapy dog, detection dog, or even in field trials. If you’ve applied before but were concerned about the budget, reach out again! While Scout has a rehoming fee to reflect his advanced obedience and care, we’re open to negotiating to find him the perfect home.

📍 Scout is located in Louisiana, but we travel often—don’t let distance stop you!

Scout Is Looking for His Perfect Match!🦮🐾

After spending some time with us, we are officially seeking Scout’s ideal home and career match so he can begin working toward placement with his forever human.

Scout shows great potential across multiple fields, making him a versatile candidate for various career opportunities. While we’re primarily seeking a potential service dog placement to complete his training, we are also open to other career options. He could excel in detection work or find fulfillment as a hunting companion for retrieval tasks. A third-party evaluator has reviewed a video of Scout for detection work and determined he has strong potential for success in this field.

At two years old, Scout has already demonstrated exceptional versatility. He is environmentally stable, well-balanced, eager to please, and remains level-headed in situations that might overwhelm other dogs. He learns quickly and, in his trainer’s opinion, is simply a joy to work with.

Training and Skills:
Scout has mastered basic obedience and is progressing in advanced obedience. He has started foundational task work, including skills like pressing handicap-accessible buttons. Finding his forever home soon will allow us to tailor and complete his training based on his placement goals.

What Scout Needs in a Home:
Scout is highly motivated by praise, food, and toys. He has medium to high energy levels, with strong retrieval drive, and thrives in active environments. While he has a reliable “off switch,” he will do best in a home that can provide regular outlets for his energy and engage him in consistent work. His love for fetch makes a home committed to playing fetch frequently—and providing additional mental and physical stimulation—an essential fit.

Scout is not overly challenging but will thrive with someone experienced in meeting the needs of a higher-drive, higher-energy Labrador.

Scout’s Story:
Scout has been let down by humans in the past. His first owners, unable to walk him due to age, rehomed him with an individual who later abandoned him and left him behind. We are determined never to let humans fail Scout again. Scout will stay with our program until the perfect home is found. We do not operate on a first-come, first-served basis; his placement will be carefully chosen to ensure his long-term success.

How to Apply:
Although our website is temporarily down, the application link for Scout and our program is included below.

⭐️It won’t let us add videos and photos at the same time so check the comments for some Scout videos.

Scout is located in Louisiana however we have placed dogs all over. The right home is priority.

An interruption to our regularly scheduled program

We were recently contacted by a man about a Labrador he wanted to donate named Scout, who was being rehomed due to difficult life circumstances. Originally owned by an elderly couple who could no longer walk and meet his exercise and enrichment needs, Scout ended up adopted by a woman looking for a playmate for her other dog. Unfortunately, less than two months later, she was arrested for domestic violence. And after her release, she reclaimed her other dog and officially abandoned Scout with her ex-husband, leaving him in need of a new home.

Scout is currently with our head trainer, where he is learning and progressing every day. While it’s uncommon to begin training a dog for service work at the age of two, we are considering Scout for placement as either a started service dog or a companion pet, pending further evaluation and training. There is always a chance scout will be deemed unfit for service work by our standards as he still has much to learn.

If you are interested in welcoming Scout into your home, please fill out the application linked below, and be sure to indicate whether you’re applying as a pet home or a service home.
Finding a loving home is priority.

“He would make a wonderful sport dog in a variety of venues as well. His retrieval and toy drive are both incredibly nice and he is IMO one of those dogs that are geniunely fun to train”

We are in Louisiana but place dogs all over the USA. Buyers are responsible for all transportation costs for out-of-state deliveries.

Service dogs are a huge investment, both in time and cost, so their safety is non-negotiable. That’s why we always use a sturdy crate like a Ruffland when traveling. In an accident, an unrestrained dog can face serious injury, risking not only their health but the future of their service work. Protecting these dogs protects the people who depend on them!

26/04/2024

Stress signals in dogs can be hard to catch if you don’t know what you’re looking for, so let’s talk about a few of the easier ones to spot. Panting, lip licking, lip lifting, and whale eye are all very easy to spot. These are usually displacement behaviors that are saying, “I don’t like this.” They can occur when meeting new dogs, encountering new sounds, going new places, or experiencing things that a dog doesn’t like. Now, these things individually do not mean your dog is stressed. Dogs pant when they’re hot or tired, as well as when stressed. They lip lick when they’re thirsty or had a good treat, and whale eye can just be them looking around. Lip lifting is pretty universally a stop/go away signal, but it can also occur when you scratch certain spots on their face.

Harder to spot stress signals could be facial tension, pinned or airplane ears, and body shyness. These will vary dog by dog, and part of learning each dog’s body language is important. Watching for the combination of these signs of stress can help us as handlers and trainers decide when our dogs stop learning and being constructive working dogs and when they reach threshold and either need a break or a decompression session. All dogs will experience stress. Even the most highly trained dogs will encounter something new in the world and not know what to do. Keeping that in mind helps us as handlers to understand our furry friends and make sure they stay below threshold.•
