Jessie’s Backstory

Aloha! Thank you for visiting Jessie’s page. Jessie an adoptable Shiba-Inu mix through PAWS of Hawai’i. She has had a long and bumpy journey to get to where she is today, and still has a long journey ahead of her, but the future looks bright! She is currently with a foster family in Waianae while she heals both physically and mentally, and begins her training and socialization. We invite you to follow her journey, apply to adopt her, send advice and well-wishes, and help with any medical/training fundraisers.

Jessie’s Backstory: Jessie was found on Kamehameha Highway on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. It took multiple good samaritans almost an hour with stopped traffic to catch her. They could see that she had a severe neck injury, but what it turned out to be was a large chain that had cut deeply into her neck. Jessie was taken to Ka’a’awa K9 Rescue that day (Saturday, March 21). The veterinarians at Aloha Affordable Animal Clinic were able to get her into surgery on Sunday to remove the chain and close up her neck. Due to the heavy rains, flooding, and her anxiety, Jessie’s neck wound was not healing properly and beginning to reopen and the skin to necrotize. Ka’a’awa was concerned about infection without constant watch and a proper environment to heal from such a big surgery, so contacted PAWS of Hawai’i to see if they could take her and find a foster. Ku’ulei, the Executive Director of PAWS of Hawai’i, jumped on the phone and found Jessie a foster as well as took over the vetting, long-term responsibility, and the vast bills associated with Jessie.

Jessie has since had to have her neck surgery corrected to cut off the necrotized skin and redo the stitches, been spayed, received all yearly vaccinations, been diagnosed with heartworm, and started treatment for heartworm.

While in foster care, Jessie’s family is working daily on socializing her to other animals, men, women, and children along with general training.
