The position is part-time, up to 20 hours per week and includes a variety of work with animals, the shelter and supporting the Executive Director in realizing the mission of HARK. UPDATE: It appears the language in the original post was misleading to some viewers. A "live-release rate" is calculated by adding up the number of adoptions, return-to-owners, and transfers each month (so all the positive outcomes). That number is then divided by the total number of outcomes. This is the percentage of animals we are releasing alive to new homes or have returned to their original homes! KHS does not trap animals to neuter and release them.

We are so excited to announce that the Kauai Humane Society is officially a no-kill animal shelter in 2021!! For many months now we have had live release rates above 90% each month, in fact since October, we've had most months above 97%!!

Rest assured, we plan to keep it this way and only improve upon these rates moving forward.

This wonderful news is only possible because of all our supporters, donors, and volunteers. It takes a village to rescue animals, find them homes, raise the money to transfer them to rescues in larger areas, and keep these animals healthy and happy.

Mahalo to everyone who made this happen!!!

Haines Animal Rescue Kennel

*UPDATE* The dogs are trying out a new home. Many thanks to all who shared our post and to all the wonderful people who were willing to adopt them. We are truly grateful to all of you.
Mica and Onny are a bonded pair of Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix dogs in need of a new home. They are about 6 years old, spayed and neutered. We will have more information and better photos soon. Please share and help us find a home for these two. Thank you to everyone out there who is helping.

lets find a home

These brother and sister tuxedo kittens are in need of loving homes. They are about 10 weeks old and have been in foster care for almost 3 weeks. They were feral kittens and, even though we have made a lot of progress with their trust and social skills, they will still need a person who is willing to spend extra time to keep them on the right track. They are litter trained, de-wormed, and vaccinated. They love their bellies rubbed and chins scratched and both purr like boat motors when they're in that comfort zone. They do not scratch or bite and are both motivated by choice food treats. They are at a point where they really need to bond with their lifetime person. Give a call during office hours if you have questions. Please share and help these two cuties find a home for the holidays!

This mama dog is named Olive and she is a husky mix that will be coming in from Tok with her 7 puppies. The pups are only a couple days old husky/lab/Karelian bear dog mixes.

We need a foster that can take in olive and all her pups until the puppies are old enough to be adopted. At that time, we will spay olive and send her back to her owner in Tok.
