Just a few jobs done lately. I do my best to cater for each hoof, limb, horse individually. Different types of feet required different styles of shoes, each with their own modifications see the shiny ✨ bits.
And if in doubt barefoot is undoubtedly best for some and even then a simple layer of protection can be given.

BFBA have pulled it out the hat again and put on a fantastic Focus 2024 over the weekend great fun to be part of it, learnt a few things bought things met lots of great people new and old. 👌👌👌

same 4am leave🥱
same car and trailer😳
Some would say I am mad. 🫣 ok so no need to comment now.

But that bloke from Cannahars Field & Forest Services Ltd collard me when he heard I was driving down south …..👀🤣

I guess we will just have to wait and see what he has got now🙄

Day two at the Scottish endurance riding club championships and they did not disappoint!

They got the sun to come out and play☀️💪💪

Then there was plenty of objects in the sky….well obvious if you want to park up at the end of a runway 🛫🛬

And the best bit, well for me any way🫣 I got to handle 180 horses 🚜 just to pull out various heavily laden horse boxes in very soft ground conditions.

Well done everyone that completed and completed, the adrenaline was running high the final vet check and the relief and euphoria was great to be part of.

Safe travels to everyone, maybe see you next year😬👀

Well that’s camp set up for the weekend, duty farrier at the Scottish Endurance Riding Club championships in beautiful Perthshire.

My job this weekend is all about horse welfare and are the feet deemed fit to for purpose.
All good so far 👍

I got the absolute pleasure of watching my old/former master out competing for the first time in 5 years. Jim Balfour you’ve still got it! He placed third behind one of this sons and just in front of his other son💪💪💪

This time 23 years ago to the month I started my apprenticeship with him and little did I know the talent that surrounded me then, and what a strong foundation he instilled in me. Proud to be his last apprentice to say the least! 🙏

Even got a wee selfy with our judge Alan Ferrie and a couple of ponies in the background…🫣and a massive thank you to Donald Nicol and Murray Mcintosh for sorting and running the competition at the Aberdeen Clydesdale show.
Congratulations to the winners, maybe I’ll be fit enough to give it a bash next year🤞.

Some hoof mapping to help reference the Avanti PLR shoes along with hight heels for greater comfort behind.

Then the last two photos, showing the success of a sole cover now removed and not reapplied as the foot has developed a tougher stronger sole.

All in a days work, working to give the best to your horses.

Echt show demo 2024. Done and dusted. Could only persuade 3farriers it join in the fun but I know for sure there were 3 others there, who had forgotten the chaps at home🤦🏻‍♂️…..😂

We had fun shoeing these excellently behaved Icelandic ponies and even knocked out some Clydesdale shoe in readyness for our competition in august. Some more practice will be required …. Hence there’s no photographic evidence 🫣

Thanks to Donald and Jay for shoeing my horses for me and Jeremy for bringing the black beauties.

Every horse is shoe as per their needs here we we have softened-removed the corners of the shoe to make life easier for the horse. 🐴

They say barefoot is best and who am I to argue! But this lovely horse needed a little bit of extra protection especially over the car parks that have a stony hard core base.
So here we covered the sole with a glue and rubber strand mix = happy horse happy owner👌

Oh how I love my clients! Very first appointment back at work and I am met with a wheel chair🤦🏻‍♂️ and am told “it’s just in case….”🤪

Easing myself back in to the way of things and it’s all going very well. 💪
