A Message from Pemi

Hi! My name is Pemi, short for Pemigewasset, and I live in Hancock, NH with my mom and dad. I really love to play frisbee, chase my tennis ball, have group hugs with my parents, and hike in the woods. I have a lot of friends that I play with, both canine and human. Last fall I finished my 48 4,000 footers and received my patch and certificate. Now I’m helping my mom finish her first round and my dad his fifth.

Last summer I became a certified animal assisted therapy team with my mom. Through Pet Partners, we were both trained to provide support for people. I have visited residents of a local assisted living facility where I brought a lot of joy and comfort to them. One time a man who never came out of his room came into the hallway so he could pet me. I also have visited loved ones in the hospital and while I was there, the nurses really enjoyed meeting me too. Petting me seems to make people really happy and everyone smiles when they see me. It feels good.

Soon I’m going to be going to work with my mom at a high school and I am excited about that. I hope that I can reduce anxiety and stress in the students and provide them with some comfort. I also hope they will play with me!
