Remember Hunter? When longtime friend and foster Ignacio Ariza asked us to help a neighbor who had found a stray puppy on their porch, we said yes. The only catch? It seemed this stray might be a ! Nicknamed Maligators 🐊 by breed aficionados, Hunter lived up to the hype. Luckily our trusted friend and professional dog trainer Corinne Fritzell stepped up to foster him and teach him how to control his impulses and channel his bitey athleticism in appropriate ways while we started searching for an adopter.

At GLDR, we make successful matches by practicing open, conversational adoptions to get to know the humans on the other end of each inquiry. When we met RJ, it wasn’t about having breed experience or a fenced in yard, it was RJ’s realistic expectations, go with the flow attitude, and quiet but active country life that made him and Hunter the perfect fit for one another…and now the bromance is official. Hunter has found his ride or die and will be riding shotgun for wherever life takes them together!

Get involved and give the good life to a dog in need, one dog at a time.

This Giving Tuesday, give a gift from your heart to help Apollo’s beat on!🫀

ICYMI: 11 year old Apollo became a Good Life dog when his owner Carol sadly passed away. He soon former a magical bond with his dogwalker-turned-foster Tosha and everyone in her household—including her cats! But shortly after settling in, Apollo suddenly collapsed.

His fosters rushed him to Brilliant Veterinary Care , where he was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) — a heart condition that weakens the heart’s ability to pump blood — and we knew Apollo would need the guidance of a specialist to live the rest of his life at his most happy and healthy.

Now, Apollo is a popular (maybe the most popular) patient at The Animal Cardiology Center. He requires specialty visits every 3-6 months and takes daily medications and supplements to manage his heart health as best as we can. The good news? These treatments are working, and his condition hasn’t gotten worse!

While we know Apollo’s time is limited, we have a dream: to keep Apollo with the people who love him most and make every day feel like for however long he has. But at almost $300/month for medications and food and close to $1000 for each specialty visit with diagnostics, the cost is significant—and we can’t do it alone. We need your help to give Apollo as many good days —and happy moments—as possible.

Please donate today and share Apollo’s story. Together, we can make a difference for this incredible dog by ensuring Apollo can live his best life with the humans and animals who adore him!

Apollo’s Journey - Part One

Story time… We first met Apollo a few years ago when his owner, Carol, was facing some health challenges and needed to rehome a few of her beloved dogs. Thanks to Jessica at Healthy Pets, we were introduced to Carol and her pups. It was clear to us how deep the bond was between them, and how much Carol cared for them. We also understood that by finding homes for some of her dogs, Carol could focus on her health and well-being. We successfully placed one of her dogs with a loving older couple who were looking for a companion, and Carol kept in regular touch with them—it was heartwarming to see their connection.

Fast forward a few years—
When we learned that Apollo needed help while Carol was hospitalized a few months ago, we knew we had to step in. It took a village: Jessica walked Apollo every evening, while his regular dog walker, Tosha, handled his other walks. Then something magical happened—Tosha introduced Apollo to her cats, and it went perfectly! Soon, Tosha and her partner began fostering the frosty-faced Apollo.

But his story doesn’t end there…stay tuned to hear how this beloved old boy has continued to beat the odds!

Great tips from Pet Harmony! We believe that meeting a dog’s needs through enrichment can help prepare them for adoption.

There are going to be times when we need to help our pets calm down, regulate, and be ready for more restful and relaxing activities.

Or there may be times when your pet needs to slow it down for their physical health.

Or we need them anchored in a spot quietly instead of rolling their Kong Wobbler into the wall and knocking over furniture while we’re on a call.

The first step to figuring out which enrichment activities are calming for your pet is to observe for the activities that your dog does either while already resting, or while shifting from active time to restful time!

Use this infographic as a starter but remember to trial and evaluate different activities for the best results!

🔔 Last Chance To Join Our Safe Spaces For Anxious Learners Class! This is a 4-week class where we will teach you how to build a safe space for your pet and give them the skills to calm themselves and self-regulate when they're feeling stressed. Class starts July 31 at 2pm PDT.

Most people expect small dogs to make easy pets. The truth is, all dogs are individuals — and sometimes, big personalities come in small packages! At GLDR, we provide transitional support to dogs of all shapes and sizes (and their humans) to make sure everyone ends up happily ever after as intended.

Coogan was rescued from Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) last year and quickly showed us that she had plenty of pep and pizzazz to keep her caretakers on their toes. At just 10 lbs and 6 years old, she bonded quickly to her people but had big feelings towards other dogs when on leash and was a professional escape artist to boot.

Callie and her fiancé had just started their adoption search and were looking for a small dog who could get along with Meatball, the 19-lb resident cat, and enjoy trips to see their family in Long Island. Lucky for Coogan, they had experience with dogs who lunge and bark on leash and were ready to roll up their sleeves and do some positive reinforcement training! With a little help from Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, Inc. trainer Hanna Fushihara at , we made sure they had the necessary tools and guidance to navigate slow introductions to the family pets as a gradual foster-to-adopt process…and eventually, the rest was history!

“Coogan has quickly and easily become a part of our family. We love getting to see her learn and experience new things everyday and to provide her the love and patience she deserves. She brings so much happiness to us and everyone she meets, including our cat! We are endlessly grateful to the GLDR for bringing her into our lives and for providing support and advice throughout the process. They are AWESOME and I will be recommending them to everyone I know!”

One might call Phoebe "Cookies and Cream" based on her beautiful coloring. If you are looking for a large lap dog, Phoebe is your girl. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date on all her vaccines.

🦋 This social butterfly's favorite activities include:

👀 Making eye contact with human.
🤗 Convincing humans to give her a pet.
😍 Mesmerizing humans so much that they sit down wherever they are, providing her a lap to lay in (check out her pictures!).

This pretty girl is still learning how to play with other dogs, but she is currently being fostered with a male dog and doing well! She does best with larger, mellow dogs and we learn more and more about this lovely girl each day.

📲 Reach out to meet Phoebe in NYC and see if she could be your new best friend! 👉🏼 Email [email protected] for more info.
