Die Fast-Food-Kette Burger King hat am Dienstag ihr erstes rein veganes Restaurant am Wiener Westbahnhof eröffnet.

In der neuen Filiale sollen wie gewohnt Burger und Nuggets zur Verfügung stehen – allerdings aus rein pflanzlichen Inhalten. Auf dem deutschen Markt ist Burger King – ebenso wie weltweit – die zweitgrößte Hamburgerkette hinter McDonald’s. Die über Jahrzehnte nahezu ausschließlich auf Fleischgerichte ausgerichteten Unternehmen bieten bereits seit einigen Jahren für einzelne Gerichte eine vegetarische oder vegane Alternative an. „Die große Gruppe, die wir ansprechen wollen, sind die Flexitarier”, sagte der Klaus Schmäing, Marketingchef von Burger King. Natürlich wolle das Unternehmen aber auch Vegetarier und Veganer ansprechen. Burger King habe außerdem als erstes Gastronomieunternehmen in Deutschland die Lizenzierung des europäischen V-Labels für vegane und vegetarische Produkte erhalten.
