Mini bean removed for lovely Rocky 🫘🦄🤍

18 months ago, I removed a huge, hard, compacted bean from this lovely gelding called Tufty 🥰
It was clearly uncomfortable and had most likely been building up over quite some time

Today, on his routine clean, I found just a medium sized bean but it was really soft and hadn’t hardened at all - easily dissolving as pressed my finger into it whereas they be like absolute rocks sometimes!!

That’s the power of consistent, professional sheath cleaning 👏🏼

‘They don’t do it in the wild so theres no need for us to do it’

These are just a handful of comments I get said to me on pretty much a daily/weekly basis.

Firstly, don’t use baby oil. Just don’t.

Secondly, it is far more than just a ‘w***y wash’. Sheath cleaning is an essential part of our horses welfare, and should be seen just as important as saddle checks, dentist, physio etc which most horsey people routinely are on top of 👏🏼

Sheath cleaning to make sure your horse is clean, comfortable and healthy.
Crusty, built up sm**ma can be extremely uncomfortable, waxy thick sm**ma can be an optimum place for fly strike to take hold, beans will press directly on the horses urethra and often are incredibly tricky to remove, now you imagine walking with a stone in your shoe constantly or trying to pass to urine when there is something pressing on your wee pipe 😮
Although I cannot diagnose any conditions, if I see or feel anything slightly suspicious then I can refer to a vet for further investigation.

Mares also get beans, build up and need intimate health checks too 🦄🩷

Knowledge is key and the more we have of it the better we can look after our horses 🥰

Yes, mares get beans too 🦄

Today I removed the largest bean I’ve ever seen from a sweet 11-year-old mare called Rihanna 🐴

Her owner suspected there might be something causing some irritation, having always been quite a hormonal girly and persistent tail itching 🫘
It was completely hidden in cl****al fossa pocket and causing subtle signs of discomfort but once removed, she instantly looked more relaxed 🙏🏼

⚠️ Mare beans can lead to:

– Irritation when urinating
– Resistance when ridden
– Tail swishing, tension, or odd behaviour
- Persistent tail itching

🧼 Routine hygiene checks are just as important for mares as they are for geldings - including having them health checked ✅
If your mare has never been checked, it might be time!
