The Jep Bite

I awoke to my bird barely able to stand on his perch, supporting his body weight up against the fencing. I rushed over to him knowing something was wrong, he didn’t want to eat nor drink.

My husband took him to the vet and after the vet basically tortured him with a needle for 15 mins. She turned around to my husband and said there wasn’t anything further she could do as she was unable to draw some blood (useless vet). We took him home, still unable to stand, we proppped him up with cushions on the sofa and offered him fluids. He had a little and then just closed his eyes. We continued to offer him water and natural squeezed juices every hour. He slept in our bed propped up with pillows, and through the night we continued with fluids.

By the next day he was no better, but no worse, so we continued with the fluids and rest, watching over him every hour. By the third day, he was a little brighter, we offered him a little banana and he accepted one tiny piece.

We continued nursing him over the next week, still he was unable to stand or walk. After one week we noticed he stand and move but falling over. He was now able to stand for a while but not walk (progress, but slow). During the second week he was much brighter, standing for longer and trying to move.

It took two weeks for him to recover. We realized during that time that there was a jep nest on the roof of the house, the jeps were one by one quietly coming to snack from their fruits. We figured out one may have bitten him.
