🐾 💕 Doggie Day Out spotlight with CHAZ 💕🐾

Wow, what a perfect bean! This petite fella got quite the outing recently. Here’s what our volunteer wrote about him and his DDO: “Chaz!!!!!! Took Chazzy boy out for a doggy sleepover last night and wow. I seriously have never met a more perfect and well behaved dog. He is the most gentle thing ever and our night together was such a breeze. I took him out (super easy to leash) and then we went to the play yard to get his zoomies out. He was running around, jumping, but he wanted pets and snuggles more than anything. He was a little scared of doorways but I think he’s adjusted pretty well, and the car was definitely new to him but he did great. He sat on top of me in the back seat of the car the entire way home and looked out the window. He met tons of friends - he really really loves people - and gave a bunch of hugs and kisses. We went on rainy walks and hung out at the food park and he did so good just hanging out and people watching. He is a bit scared of loud cars and motorcycles but nothing that would stop him from being outside. He curled up in a ball on the couch the second we got home and that became his spot for the night. No accidents in the house and he slept through the whole night!! I really can’t express enough how great of a dog he is. Anyone would be so so lucky to have him.”

Want to meet sweet Chaz? Stop by Alachua County Animal Resources Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 to 5:30pm 🐶

Ok ok, he may not be a feathered friend, but boy is Goose here quite the character! 🪿✨

Goose is pretty stinking cute too. He has been loving his time in a foster home but it’s time for him to find his forever person 💕 He’s a 1-year-old Border Collie/ Pointer mix so you already know he’d love an active home where he can really stretch his legs and put his mind to work. He’d make for the perfect adventure pup — always ready to go with a very happy-go-lucky attitude! His foster parent reported back that he’s very sweet and loves to both cuddle and play. Goose is also housetrained and working on being cratetrained too. So, what do ya say, wanna meet sweet Goose? Reach out to Alachua County Animal Resources at [email protected] or stop by any time Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 5:30pm.

🚨 🐾 GUCCI NEEDS OUR HELP 🐾🚨

Help! Gucci’s foster parent can’t house him any longer due to issues with the apartment complex — we really don’t want to see him back at the shelter 💔 Can you foster or spread the word about him to potential adopters instead? He’s very ready for his forever home. Here’s what his foster mama wrote about him: “It has been so much fun fostering him — he is the perfect dog. He loves to go on walks, he knows basic commands, rarely barks, and is friendly. He has his moments of puppy zoomies, but other than that he’s a pretty chill guy. Gucci is house trained and does very well in his crate at night. He loves to sit outside and people watch. He also is playful with other dogs but doesn’t like cats, except he has been introduced to one formally (he’s only run into them on walks). He loves to chew on things, but if you redirect him with a chew toy he usually immediately stops. He’s such a sweet boy and my heart brakes that I have say goodbye. My roommates and I have truly loved having him here. Please help me find this sweet boy a home!”

Reach out to Alachua County Animal Resources via email [email protected] or give em a call at 352-264-6870 if you can help. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 5:30pm.

🐾 Doggie Day Out spotlight with DEAN 🐾

We absolutely love our regular group of Tuesday hikers! They give so many of our loving dogs a nice break from the stressful shelter with adventures around town. They also help socialize some of our needier cases. Here’s what our wonderful volunteer wrote back about her experience with one of our shyer dogs, Dean: “What a cute, sweet, cuddly but shy boy! This young guy loved his hike and his hiking pals (Hershey and Pesto) and was an active, attentive companion. On the trail, he really came out of his shell and eagerly explored all the smells and periodically wanted to play with the other dogs. Didn’t pull much at all but would zip back and forth across the trail to check everything out so he may need a bit of help learning to walk alongside ya.

After the hike, we went to get lemonade and a snack with Pam and Pesto at the Turkey Creek country club for some socializing. Pesto was the ambassador greeting all the guests while Dean hung back and watched from the safety of my chair but did say hi timidly to a few people including a kid who he seemed a lot more comfortable with than all the other big people! He was really well behaved at the table, sat or laid down quietly and only tried to get food on the table once. Never once barked.

For a timid young dog who has probably never had a day out or hung out at a restaurant, he did AMAZING 🤩! Just needs more socializing and a patient person to coax him past his fears. For just meeting me for the first time right before the hike, he started trusting me very quickly and looked to me for support throughout the day. So it shouldn’t take much to have a perfect, outgoing active companion! Don’t miss out on this sweet sweet fun boy! 😍”

So, are you ready to give this sweet ham the loving home he so desperately deserves? Stop by Alachua County Animal Resources Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 5:30pm to meet him!

Are you looking for the apple to your eye? 👀 💗

Meet Apple! This 5-year-old cutie is just so so sweet! She’s a bit cautious around men (who knows what she has been through in her past 😢), but that’s nothing yummy treats and scratches can’t fix. She’d love for a quiet home to decompress in after her stressful shelter stint. Can you give her a second shot at happiness? Read more about her below or stop by Alachua County Animal Resources Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 to 5:30pm to meet her 🐾

“Hi, my name is Apple! I am a berry sweet girl who thinks we will make a great pear. Alright alright, maybe I'm bad a pickup limes, but I AM a ridiculously affectionate girl! I can be cautious of new people, particularly men, but I've come SUCH a long way and have learned that people can give scratches...and scratches are kind of amazing. Once we are friends, we are friends for LIFE, and I will always greet you with happy tappy toes and excited zoomies. I walk very well on a leash for my person, and I will continually look back at you and smile because I'm SO excited to be going places with you. I'm still figuring out other dogs but hope to make pup friends soon. You would be the apple of my eye, hopefully I'll be yours, too!”

🖤 🐼Black (Dog) November Feature: Hartley! 🐼🖤

"My name is Hartley, and that name makes a lot of sense for me because the only thing bigger than my cute, meatball head is my HEART! You'll probably fall madly in love with me the moment you see my panda bear markings and squat lil body, but let me tell ya, this personality of mine is a solid 10 out of 10. I am SUCH a playful girl and the life of the party whenever I get to hang out with other dogs. I love to collect toys and play tug-o'-war with you, and after I beat you at tug, I will sploot on the ground with my toy prize. I know sit, down, and I'm getting so much better at my leash manners, though sometimes I prefer to walk myself and will skip along with the leash in my mouth. Don't you just want to give me scratches and make both of our hearts happy? Yeah, you know you do. Come meet me!"

All black and black and white pets have WAIVED Adoption Fees this month! Come out and meet our lil panda bear and all of her adoptable friends today! 🐾

Who is looking for a big ole ham?! 🤩

Sampson here knows sit, shake, and will give you both paws for high fives. He walks excellent on a leash and is very easy to get out (if you need an easy option). He enjoyed playing with toys in the office but spent most of the afternoon lounging on the couch until Daniel came in. He gave Daniel a very long soul hug and a big cuddle. This cutie is a total gentleman! Stop by Alachua County Animal Resources Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 5:30pm to meet him 🐶

TOMMY’S DAY OUT !!!
Tommy enjoyed what may be his first DDO. He stood in his kennel, I looped him, end of story, so easy. I let him in the play yard to burn off some energy, he murdered 2 stuffies and chased a ball. On to the car, he jumped in, rode well, and exited nicely. He has a good pace but doesn't pull. He was not phased by traffic, people, noises, and enjoyed stopping to sniff. We saw several dogs, he showed that he wanted to play but remained with me on command. He loves people. He enjoyed a pup cup, 2 slices of bacon, an egg, some provolone and numerous dog treats. He's hard to photograph because he won't pose for any length of time, but I got a few decent shots. He looks menacing but is the sweetest and most affectionate dog there is. He is easily manageable and good with other dogs. He did well at GoodNature Pet Store and selected his treat. What a great dog, he's definitely missing his brother Timmy, so hopefully he gets a good home of his own soon.❤️❤️🐾 Awesome dog.

Joy! This pup is as well tempered as it gets. Very handsome with the most beautiful eyes. Calm, loving, affectionate. Great on the leash. Bombproof doing over three miles in the woods. No fear of people, bicycles….dog friendly….. a perfect dog. And then so willing to settle down and just enjoy the outdoors next to me in my camp chair after hiking! Honestly such a wonderful boy. He’s a nice medium size dog as well. Who’s looking for the perfect pup??? Here he is!!! He’s truly a gem of a dog in every way. Who is going to be the smart family to scoop him right up?? I was so impressed with him.
❤️❤️❤️

Check out this Doggy day out with Mary Puppins!

“Sweet girl rode in the car like she’d done it all her life. Hopped right into back seat and put her head out the window. On way back she hopped into front seat!

Took her to Depot Park to walk with my hubby and our dog Xylo. Xylo is reactive on leash (Marion County rescue) but absolutely no issues with Mary. Both very neutral responses to each other. We then walked through downtown to Looseys. She got lots of oohs and ahhs, met lots of people and acted as a perfect ACAR ambassador! Mary was unphased by everything: bikes, scooters, kids, toddlers, strollers, wheelchairs, older folks, squirrels, and other dogs (all of which my dog can be very wary of so I was amazed!). Easy peasy to walk on leash. She does not have good food manners, wanted to get up on table and wanted a napkin with good smells from a toddler, but responded well to correction!”

Mary Puppins is waiting for you at Alachua County Animal Resources open on Tuesday at 10:30am!

BROOOOO, what is UP? I am Tommy. My bro, Timmy, was adopted, and I’m really hoping my turn is coming. I am a total bro, literally and figuratively. Want to watch the big game and down a whole plate of nachos? Same, bro. Want to run around and go for a 5 mile hike? Same, bro. Want to cuddle? Always, bro. I am a goofy boy and working on my sick tricks like sit, down, and paw. I will chase tennis balls aaaall day then hop into bed with you to cuddle aaaall night. I loved to play with Timmy, but I’ve made some other bro friends and quite enjoy doggy playgroups. Bro, I think I love you. Be mine forever - ask to meet me!

Volunteer favorite Aries got to enjoy a day out on the town recently. “We had an amazing DDO with Aries. He is just the best boy. I hope this information can help him get adopted. It sure was hard to put him back.

Aries was an absolute joy from start to finish. He was super calm on the car ride to the trail. He did really well on the leash and barely pulled it all. He did want to sniff everything, but once he got a few sniffs, he was happy to walk with a relatively slack leash and just stay near us. (I will say that he has a horrible habit of walking right in front of you. He definitely wants to be the leader.) My 13-year-old daughter had no problem, leading him, even though he is quite strong. She took him down near the creek to see if he was interested, but he really didn’t seem to want to get his feet wet. So we just finished a really nice walk and then took him over to Earthwise Pet for a treat and a bath. He was very timid of the sound of the dryer in the bathing area, but he handled the bath quite well. My daughter really loved giving him extra care, and they seem to connect pretty easily. After he was clean, we brought him back to my house to rest a little before we resumed the adventure and went to Depot Park, where Aries happily interacted with some younger kids. He was just gentle with everyone. I think he tired of activity and attention pretty quickly, and was content to just sit with me, especially after we walked around the pond. Throughout the day, we interacted with a few other dogs, and he seemed curious and even whimpered a little trying to talk to them, but most of their owners did not let them interact. Not one bark all day.

My daughter had been so good with him all day that I treated her to ice cream, and the lovely folks at Sweet Dreams gave us a pup cup for Aries. He loved it. Pretty sure that is a whipped cream grin in the last picture. Someone should scoop this sweet boy up soon!“

🐾🌞 Teddy, Pesto and Spot are sooo excited it’s almost the weekend 🌞 🐾

They hope that means it’ll give you all time to say hi to them soon (and maybe, just maybe help them catch a break from the shelter life)! Remember, when you adopt from your county shelter you help save two lives — the life of the pet you adopt and the life of the pet you just made room for. You can read more about these three cuties below or stop by Alachua County Animal Resources Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 5:30pm 🐶

TEDDY, 3-year-old male: My name is Theodore, but you could call me Teddy if you'd like! I really am a sweet, smiley teddy bear who would give anything to crawl up into your lap and give you a big kiss. I say smiley because, well, I smile! When I'm feeling nervous or excited I may do a very cute submissive smile where I show you all my teefies. I know sit and have been doing awesome with my leash manners. I'm VERY treat and toy motivated and love to please you! I will roll around with squeaky toys for hours and think they are a blast. I'm a medium energy guy, after I get a few quick zoomies in with my squeaky toys I'll be ready for cuddle time. I'm working on making new dog friends, too! Please put a big smile on my face and ask to meet me today!

PESTO, 1-year-old male: Hey there, I’m Pesto! I’ve been told I have some intense b***y wiggles, but that’s mainly because I want wait to say hi to you! I absolutely love to get attention and seem to think I’d do well with other dogs too. I’ve been told I’m a pretty perfect little dude with excellent manners. And well, what can I say? I’m just a total love bug at heart! I hope you’ll choose me!

SPOT, 6-year-old male: Adopting me would be...Spot on! Hey, I'm Spot. I'm a big boy with lots of love to go around, and you may have noticed my ridiculously adorable spotted ear. Anyyyway, now that we've established I'm handsome, I'm also a really good boy. I do love to play, but I do my best to be gentle and have done well with the children I've met. I think toys are AMAZING, the best invention since peanut butter, and I would love to have my own toy collection! I've spent time in a foster home, and my foster mom said I've come a long way with my potty training and crate training, and I really had a blast running through her yard with all my toys. I did well with the other dogs I met, too, but I can be a little shy around new dogs and do best with slow introductions. Ask to give me a cuddle today!

Doggie Day Out spotlight with adorable DOBBY 😍🐾

We absolutely love seeing dogs get a decompression break from the stress of being in a loud shelter. Did you know that you can help change this by signing up as a volunteer and taking dogs on your very own DDO? The humans and dogs alike really treasure these outings. Here’s what one of our regular and very treasured volunteers reported back about her latest adventure with an ACAR dog : “Today Dobby joined me on my usual trek to Depot Park, 4th Ave Food Park and GoodNature Pet Store. She leashes up and walks well thru the kennel, needed a boost getting in the car until our 3rd time, then she sailed in with ease. She rides quietly. She has a nice pace, and likes to be ahead or beside you. She was a little anxious with the sounds and activity but near the end her tail was up and swaying back and forth as she walked. Friendly with people, wanted to play with the dogs we encountered but she'll stay by your side if you ask her. Very treat motivated. A sweet, smart and beautiful girl. She's a gem, and whoever adopts her will be getting a super dog, just a joy to be with ❤️”

Stop by Alachua County Animal Resources Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 5:30pm to meet sweet Dobby! Check out the rest of the adoptables here: myacar.org 🐶

Who’s looking for a happy pup whose tail never stops going?! Meet WAGGIN 😍💖

Waggin is such a sweet, playful, funny and cuddly gal who just loves life. She may have made a few more revolutions around the sun than some of the younger k9's but don't tell her she is a senior! She loves to play, hike or just take a walk. When not out exercising, she is cuddling on the couch, because that is clearly where she belongs 😜 This girlie has worked effortlessly on remembering her housebreaking skills and is perfectly crate trained too. She loves her foster brother and sister, but is perfectly happy one on one. Waggin also knows basic commands and boy, her smile is sure to melt your heart 💕 Let's help get this little Florida brown dog a home of her own! You can read more about her below or reach out to the nice folks at Alachua County Animal Resources via email ([email protected]) to meet her:

“Hi there! My name is Waggin’ because this tail never stops going! I'm a very happy girl who absolutely loves life! I warm up quickly, then my lil tail starts going like crazy! I've loved every person I've ever met, kids included. I also LOVE treats and will even put my head on your lap while I wait for my next one! I don't mind other pups and have even gone to Camp Run-a-Mutt for Doggy Day Camp, but I tend to prefer other gentle dainty pups like me, or I could do just fine living in a home as the only pup. My volunteer friends take me home for Doggy Day Outs often, and they say I am paw-some at playing fetch and riding in the car! I am currently in a foster home, and my foster family is helping me finish my potty training and helping me through storms (they can be a little scary at times), but I am very eager to make you happy and feel very safe with my person. I live very peacefully with a few doggy friends, and my fosters are even working on introducing me to cats. I am very gentle and don't mind rocking a costume (I'd love to find a home in time for Howl-o-ween, so we can go trick-or-treating together!). Give me a cuddle today, and oh yeah, don't forget to bring the treats!”

Look at these happy pups absolutely loving their play group session 🤩

While the shelter has made huge strides getting dogs more frequent time out of their kennels, they always need more help. Dogs thrive on socialization and outdoor time — and YOU can help make that happen by signing up to volunteer! Volunteers are welcome to take dogs out on play yards for fetch sessions or photo shoots, walking them around the trail located behind the facility, or even taking them out around town for fun Doggie Day Outings. Helping these dogs get more socialization in turn helps them get adopted (especially if you take great photos and notes that we can in turn post on social media). All you have to do is sign up to volunteer here: myacar.org and shoot the nice folks at the shelter an email at [email protected] 🐕 ACAR is open for volunteers Tuesday through Sunday, 10:30am to 5:30pm. So, let’s rally together to give these needy pups an opportunity to run, play and most importantly, find their forever homes 🏡 🐶

Meet SHERLOCK! This handsome shepherd mix is such a catch. He walks great on a leash AND is even good with dogs. He recently got to go on a Doggie Day Outing, where he was complemented on his snuggle skills too. He loved going to the park and getting ice cream. The volunteer that took him out also reported back he did not have any accidents in the house so he’s likely housetrained. So, what do ya say? Are you ready to meet this 1-year-old cutie? Stop by Alachua County Animal Resources Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 5:30pm to meet him 🐶

Sailor, our lovable goofball, was on a mission to steal hearts during his latest DDO and boy, he didn’t disappoint 😍✨

This 2-year-old fella has true goofy goober energy! One of our volunteers took him out on a big romp around town that included not just Gainesville’s best pizza joint (Satchel's Pizza, duh) but visiting the swamp too 🐊 Here’s what she reported back: “Sailor was the perfect pup for our Doggie Day Outing! First, we took him out on the play yard so he could get his zoomies out — watching him gallop around and toss his toys in the air was so cute. He also got to say hello to one of his doggie neighbors in the opposite play yard (perhaps a sign that he may want a furry sibling or two? 😉). Afterwords, we hopped in the car so we could grab a couple slices at Satchel’s Pizza. He was very excited by all the smells! Sailor even did this adorable tip tap dance with his front feet when he realized that we left a couple pizza crusts for him. After we fueled up, we decided to take him on a long walk around campus. We introduced him to the Bull Gator statue outside the stadium, and yes he was a lil suspicious at first 😂 All in all, he was a total joy to explore campus with — he walks just fine on a leash and is happy to relax alongside you when you need a break. Throughout our outing, he was excited to get loved on by people and didn’t hesitate to show you just how grateful he was to be alongside you (we’re talking full on “facials” aka doggie kisses). And if you scratch that special spot right by his behind? He’ll melt like jello! This medium-energy fella would absolutely love a forever home to share his joy with. Please consider meeting him!”

I’m Cody, and they call me Mr. Handsome! Leashing me is a breeze for me, even though I’m still working on my leash skills. We spent an amazing day at my new friend’s place, and let me tell you, it was a blast. I absolutely loved playing fetch and exploring the property. I’m a big fan of people, and I’m head over paws for my new human friend – especially the one who seems like he’s been around dogs like me.

That bath they gave me was not my favorite, but the pampering and grooming that followed? Well, that was just what I needed! I’m very human-oriented and consider myself quite clever. I thrive on attention and affection, and the best part is, I’m buddies with both cats and dogs. I do have quite a bit of energy, though, so you might need to redirect me and tell me to sit at first, but don’t worry, I eventually settle down nicely.

I can’t wait to spend more time with them and find my groove. Those kennels just don’t suit me, and I definitely need my exercise. 😢 I’m a super sweet, super smart, and very trainable boy.

You met Boscoe (aka Boo-scoe!) a few days ago, but he recently got to go on a day out!:
Boscoe Doggy Day Out! 🐕

Boscoe got to go on some adventures today! I did have to help him getting in my Jeep each time, but he jumped out ok. He probably hasn't had many car rides as he was a little unsteady/unsure of his lack of stability. He didn't mind the windows down & stuck his head out in the wind a few times.

First we went to the Thornbrook Art Festival. He did great with a young boy & his bearded dragon on his shoulder. He loved giving kisses & laying (& rolling) in the grass. Met another dog and Boscoe crouched then jumped like he wanted to play. We each enjoyed a hotdog 🌭 at the food truck area. He was so gentle taking food from me.

Then we walked around depot park. We met a 10 yo boy and his sister (& parents) who he absolutely adored. The boy came and sat with us for a while (he told Boscoe "I love you buddy" 😭) and Boscoe was so patient with the boy. Boscoe mostly just enjoyed just sitting by our bench watching cars go by & breeze on his face.
Of note, he did good with stairs & ramps there.

Lastly, what's a doggy day out without stopping by Good Nature Pet Store for snackos?! He was actually VERY good with all of the treats. He sniffed through them all then went back and picked out a "bagel". He met the stuffed animal black dog in the back room, which I think confused him quite a bit. He ruffled his tail feathers & started growling at it (yes, I miraculously got a video of that) 😂 He was easily corrected and seemed to ignore it after that.
