🐱🌀 14 CATS LOOKING FOR FOSTERS (WEDNESDAY 10/9 12:15PM until 2PM) 🌀🐱 READ FAQs CAREFULLY

🐱🌀 CAT FOSTERS NEEDED 🌀🐱 Please read very carefully if you are interested in fostering, rules will be different than for dogs. We will try to answer all of your questions in this post.

We now have a few cats and older kittens that need foster placement. We are, however, asking for a 2 week commitment for cats, and fosters will not be permitted to look around/select the cat. Our Foster Coordinator will meet with you, go over options, and assign you a cat. There are currently 14 cats in need of placement. We will update this post once we have placed all of the cats.

The cats we need to place are shy and may need some socialization and a quiet room to feel comfy in. Most have done well with other cats, but we always recommend a very slow introduction and to keep them separate at first.

You can live out of county but must have access to reliable transportation to bring them to and from appointments. All cats have been vaccinated, sterilized, or will be scheduled for sterilization soon.

We have very few staff members at the shelter currently, so we will not respond to general inquiries about fostering today. If you are able to foster a cat or one of the few dogs we have left, please stop in. We will make an updated post when we are no longer placing animals.

Thank you to our Gainesville (and surrounding) community members! ❤️🐾

Thank you to our Gainesville (and surrounding) community members! ❤️🐾

We are completely blown away by the overwhelming response we received to our storm foster plea! We sent out over 60 animals today (overall total coming soon, we are still sending some out as this post is being made!). We can NEVER thank you, our community, enough for stepping up and helping us EMPTY THE SHELTER!

We do still have a very small handful of dogs that we would love to find placement for tomorrow morning/early afternoon. Please stay tuned for another update this evening as we review our population. We will post the remaining animals and hours for tomorrow soon.

We will otherwise be CLOSED all day tomorrow. Please stay safe, and thank you from the very bottom of our hearts 🐶❤️🐱

4 Hours Left to Pick Up Your Hurricane Foster Friend! Alachua County Animal Resources is open until 7PM TODAY (Tuesday) and is accepting walk-in fosters. They will pair you with the right fit for your household, and will provide ALL supplies! FAQs BELOW! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

🐾 No appointment is required; come in anytime before 7:00pm.
🐾 They cannot 'hold' dogs. Dogs you view online may have found foster placement by the time you arrive, there are still ~60-70 options!
🐾 Dog friendly dogs are still available; Most confirmed cat friendly dogs have found foster, but we still have older puppies that will likely be fine with cats! They advise keeping dogs separate from cats this week as this is a very short foster period.
🐾 They cannot do meet-and-greets between owned pets and shelter pets today. Please leave your dogs and cats at home. They will review behavior notes with you and match you with the right dog.
🐾 All small dogs are currently in foster, but there are 30-40 pound dogs still available
🐾 You can live out of county, however you must have access to reliable transportation.
🐾 They are asking all fosters to keep dogs until Saturday or Tuesday.
🐾 All dogs are vaccinated. Almost every dog has been sterilized as well (or they are waiting for their appointment)

After spending some time in a wonderful foster home for the storm, our sweet Button will be back at the shelter tomorrow. We ❤️ this guy.

Hello my name is Button and all you need to do is look into my dark brown eyes to know why. My foster family have another dog and a toddler both of which I enjoyed. I am house broke and crate trained. Storms? No problem. I love belly rubs, sunny myself and walks. I a smart boy and know my name, sit, shake, leave it and down. Would love to be the Button of your eyes.

One of our fabulous volunteers took sweet Stubby out recently. Here’s his great report card. ACAR is open today at 10:30 if you would like to meet this boy:

“Had the pleasure of doing a DDO-Sleepover with our sweet friend, Stubby! Stubby may look frantic at times in his kennel, but as soon as he has a patch of floor or couch to plop onto, he nestles right into potato mode. When out for walks, he became tense around the other dogs and people, but stayed at my ankles for the duration of the walk and didn’t pull. He seems very tolerant, letting me touch his feet, tail, face, and rubbins all over his tummy of course. He didn’t show signs of resource guarding, as he allowed me to put down and take away food and toys at will, though he’s familiar with me at this point and I didn’t let my roommates (strangers) try. Most of his business was done outside, but may need some help polishing off his potty-training. As pet and treat motivated as he is, should be a quick fix! He seems to be crate-trained, voluntarily plopping himself in there when I wasn’t available to give him pets, and was perfect in the crate overnight. Overall, this grumbly little guy would be the perfect pup for someone looking for a companion that’s low-energy and all snuggles.
Call (352) 264-6870 or email me at [email protected] to inquire about fostering or adopting!”

Howdy there! We are Trouble (smaller, pointy ears) and Snap, a bonded pair of older gentleman in search of a proper home in which to spend our golden years. We have spent many years together, and as such, we would really love to find a home for the both of us! We tend to be low energy but curious, we like to follow you around and know what you are up to. We seem to be housebroken and are familiar with sit and down, and we both love to snack on jerky treats. We can be around other animals and think we would do okay with kitties, but we prefer calmer dogs that will respect our space. Do you have enough room in your home and your heart for the both of us? We really hope so! Ask to meet us!

Meet adoptable SNICKERDOODLE!

“How is this amazing girl not adopted?! What a sweet soul, so easy to loop, and rides in the car quietly. Walks well on leash with minimal pulling. Beautiful temperament, she loves people, probably would have sat on my lap all day. She knows sit and down and was treated motivated. She did get a little reactive to birds bravely running by us and was interested in the 2 dogs we passed. Overall one of the sweetest dogs I've taken out, I believe she's highly trainable and will be a fantastic companion to anyone. 🥰” - Thanks for the Pupdate Volunteer Lynn!

Meet Sadie!

Imagine walking through a peaceful meadow. The sun is shining, birds are chirping, you have a loyal companion at your side. My name is Sadie, and if you adopt me, I will make every day feel just like that! I love to roll around in the grass and absorb all the sunshine. After I get some good back scratching out of the way, I’m a very laidback girl and just enjoy being next to you. I am fully housebroken and will keep myself occupied with toys. I lived with another dog previously and could potentially live with another respectful dog, but I do enjoy being the center of your attention and may prefer to be the only pet. Let’s take a walk together- ask to meet me today!
