Had three amazing sessions today and got to share a very emotional moment during the last session of the day.
We have been working on reactivity with this dog and his sister. This little man can find the big wide world overwhelming and he reacts to both people and dogs.
Session 1 we could have never imagined the achievement we reached today. What did we achieve you may ask, we spent time in a garden centre car park and were able to do a whole lap of that car park even past a car with a dog barking in it.
Now for those who donโt have a reactive dog, doing a lap of a car park may not seem like a big deal but for those who support reactive dogs even a task such as this is often times too much to expect. This was a massive massive win and a very emotional moment for us all.
Reactivity can really shrink your world and what is accessible for you and your dogs. My client initially said their goal was to be able to take their dogs to a cafe and this really stuck with me as it is something so many take for granted. All her hard work to understand and support her dogs with care and consistency is what has got us to this (this is our seventh session).
This was a very special day and one that will stick with me. โค๏ธ

Happy Monday at Happy Landings โค๏ธ This week I spent time with: Coco-who is still learning and developing at just 7 months old, Lucy-who is recovering from surgery and Flash and Prince-who are father and son. Free work is something we do every week as it supports confidence building, positive exploration, provides enrichment and the opportunity for lots of sniffing which helps dogs to both calm and build positive associations.

Our Monday mood at Happy Landings Animal Rescue yesterday ๐๐ This week most importantly we played. We also did some free work, recall games and introducing muzzle training. Muzzle training is a skill every dog should have and is never a negative. ๐ฉท๐ฉท๐ฉท

A little insight into what a โreiki for dogsโ session looks like and a recent review. โจ โShannon has been giving Reiki sessions to my 3 dogs as part of her training portfolio. After coming home from work after their 1st session, I noticed straight away how calm my dogs were and how they were all in their own space dotted around my siting room. My two older dogs have arthritis in their backs and have a Librela injection once a month from the vets, and we are going to incorporate Reiki along side the injection. I observed them both for a couple of days after their 1st season of Reiki and I was amazed at how much more relaxed they were. One of them definitely benefited more than the other (this dog has extreme pain in his back and often will let you know if heโs suffering) I watched the videos Shannon sent though asking each dog where they would like to have their Reiki and this dog would move around so that Shannon could be guided where to send the energy. This particular dog was completely up for a play time with me after his second session - this is something that heโs not wanted to do for a long time because of his back pain - he wanted me to throw the toy and he would collect it and return it to me - it was truly a heart warming moment and I can only think it was because of the Reiki he was able to do this. I am so excited that Shannon will be soon offering this as a holistic treatment for dogs as for a long time Iโve wanted to use a more holistic approach to my dogs health. Shannon has a calming warmth of energy when she offers the dogs the treatment assisted with the Reiki Zen Healing music. I can highly recommend Shannon as a Reiki practitioner, I know that my dogs physical, emotional and behavioural conditions have been helped from a few training sessions with Shannon.โ Emma -Luise Schรคfer Bertie, Basil and Barney
Great final session this morning. We focused on recall for our third session as we had use of a secure field and also did some more work with continuing engage/disengage with the use of a stooge. Excitement when seeing other dogs and recall were this clients reasons for seeking sessions. โ๏ธSlip leads are NOT endorsed, I keep one in the car incase I ever come across a loose dog as a last resort of being able to secure the dog and transport it to ensure itโs safety. Also stoogey is only a teddyโ๏ธ
We had hired this secure field to focus on some training but decided instead to let Ru just do her thing. So often we forget how necessary it is to just let our dogs have time to be themselves, without expectation. To run, jump and sniff as they please or just take in the world around them, without any intervention from us. What better way to foster confidence and a secure bond with our dogs than to allow them this time. โค๏ธ๐พ
Play is an amazing way to bond with your dog and also provides the opportunity to proof cues by involving distraction, all while using play as the reward. ๐๐พ Get 15% off any 2 Tug-E-Nuff toys, just head to the link below and youโll get your exclusive access to this fab deal.
