In the process of training your dog there will be times when you will need to reinforce what you say. A very large part of having a reasonably trained dog is how you hold the dog accountable when he or she is not formally training in your day-to-day interactions with your dog in your house.

Dragging a short leash with no handle is a great way to start. A short tab is the next transition
It gives you a way to reinforce what you are saying and make it happen

Bruno 12 mo. Working on Generalizing place. Holding a stay while I walk and check the mailbox and then when I walk to the door and release him with a whistle. He is starting to show energy with a heel position cue . I work on this but do not spend a great deal of time. He is catching on fast and in doing so adapts his own version of getting into heel position as they all do. Some flip some swing around some bounce. I don't insist on any certain way whatever they end up with and seem to enjoy. He is as long as a limousine so it is cool watching him with energy swing his self around and get in position

Interactive Dynamic Constructive Play . We are using some of the things she knows sit,down, out, going to a place etc. Now we are asking for some of these things while she is in a high state of arousal. She has not generalized all of these things and they are not perfect but this is a chance to use some of the skills she learned with no distractions and in a sterile environment. The out and correct heel position are a work in progress. Ideally I should have a tab on her to help her be correct. Up until 2 or 3 days ago This dog would not play with me at all.
