Not all blue eyes are from Vienna. We have a few very special blue eyed kits in our boxes right now. These bright eyed little beauties are self chins. They are genetically similar to self black, only they have the chinchilla gene (or cchd) instead of the full color gene. This effects their eye color and can turn their eyes blue! Here is an example of the self chin blue eye, as well as a Vienna blue eye and a dilute blue/grey eye. All of these examples are kits, so their eyes may still change as they mature. Self Chin eye can darken with age, while Vienna blue eyes usually get brighter with age (I have had some start out dark grey and turn crystal blue by 10 weeks) and dilute eyes tend to lighten as the rabbits grow as well. It should be interesting to see if these self chin rabbits develop!

Since we have so many kits in the box right now (literally a bit of everything) we took some photos of basic colors and patterns. We will have to get more as the kits grow, but i love all the color we have right now. Clean examples of chocolate, lillac, black, blue, all 4 tort colors, shaded colors, agouti, REW, BEW, harlis, brokens, and lots of fun coat patterns. We even got some pet quality sable chins from one of our foster does and a broken opal from another. Seeing some of these colors in person is breath taking!

Gunn Bunn's Chick Habbit
This tiny guy is toooo cute. Hopefully we can beef him up a bit before our next show. He is starting to clear break, so we are optimistic! He still has a little face wool, but we love his grumpy face. He is not 3 months and he already loves the ladies. He should be an effective herd buck.

Gunnar with his BOB winning buck. We won Best of breed , and BOSV Show B against 26 other lionheads. This judge was very strict about breaks so Gunn Bunn's Boujee beat out rabbits with more compact type but woolie saddles. It was a bit of a technicality since many rabbits were DQed, but we went up against a very nice tort doe who won best opposite, and a really nice black buck. We also won BOSV in show A.
I thought about selling this buck, but Gunnar insisted on keeping him to show. I guess I will trust his judgment now.
Over all a very fun show and a incredible time to see friends and meet new people. We left with way too many new rabbits.

Our chocolate Easter Bunnies! Love these cuties.

These beautiful babies are out of two amazing chocolate lionheads we were gifted from a friend, so they we have her prefix of Paradise Lion's to show our appreciation. Hopefully we can grow them out well to do her proud!

Just when we were starting to give up on our hollands they decided to throw us a bone! Look at these chuddy Tri kits. We actually have a few kindlings in the box. Of course they are all fox and tri... but it would be too much to expect anything showable. We have decided to embrace the tris and just added a few stunning harli and magpie does so this project should keep going.
We still have not given up on our show lines, and we will be keeping the show lines clean.

Very excited about my agoutis. These chestnuts both carry dilute, so next stop opal lionheads! We have a few more chestnut in our boxes so hopefully they come our nice. So far no signs of vienna have popped up from cookie, but he could be a VC so we will have to keep breeding and be aware of that.

Sooo... redcell. We saw a post about Redcell boosting bucks drive to help with kindling. Well, we gave I few drops to everyone in their water for about 3 weeks. We have soooooo many kits. So many! I was proud last month, now I'm amazed. They just keep going. We have 10 more does that palped positive and about 20 kits in the box just today. We finally have hollands and AFLs.

Gunn Bunn's Supermassive Black Hole is growing out cute. He is keeping a decent mane, but its a little sparse on the sides on his ears. While many of my current grow outs are a little patchy in their top manes, his seems to lack wool all the way around his face. His head popped nice, and his ears are adorable with nice shape and size. His ears are set further back then I would like. He has cleared so well, and his wool and fur both have lovely texture. His body is very compact and round, with a full body and nice width over all. I dont like his weak ankles, but his longer limbs balance well with his body over all.
He is going to stay longer so i can see if the top mane fills in, but I found a new home for his Sire since I believe he gets the front top mane from his there. His sire has an amazing body but his mane sub par for a show animal.

We took some pics of our keeper doe. Just love that high rufus. This little girl has a wide back side. Now we need a name... we are thinking Gunn Bunn's Strawberry Milkshake because she is thicc like a shake. She probably wont hit the tables before she is a SR, so we will wait and see how she grows. We like her a lot, but we dont really need another tort doe (we have over 15...)

This sweet boy is finally starting to recover. He was grabbed by a very lage raven while he was playing outside. Luckily I scared the raven off and it dropped him, but the shock and the punctures wounds from the raven caused temporary paralysis in his back legs. They had feelings, but he could not walk for 3-4 days.
He has been recovering in the house (hence the beautiful mane retention) and he is finally well enough to go into the rabbitry. He is active and just as energetic as he was before he was grabbed and dropped by a giant bird. We need to get his weight back up and we have been working with him every day. As soon as he is back to a nice weight he can go to a home at a greatly reduced price on the provision that he has sustained an injury and will need to be cared for very gently. He's a beautiful boy, but he was never one of our keepers since he is a longer buck. He has a better mane then his siblings now, but they all looked like him before they went outside and lost their manes so he might lose some mane now that he is outside too.

So one of our harli does was due tomarrow, but she kindled today. She had 9 Kits! 9! Absolutely crazy. We were hoping she might foster a few, but I guess not. We are definitely excited to get some broken/tri kits from her. We see a few with the beautiful Rhinelander pattern that our mentor worked hard to produce. The kits are not genetically Charles, but this pattern carries to the kits and produces such a fun look. Truly beautiful. We will definitely have some of these kits for sale when they grow out, but they are fun enough that it should not be an issue to find them homes.

Our does are finally doe kindling for the month. We made a board for our current kindlings. 18 does kindled and we only had 2 kit loses so far. This is exactly why we prefer small kindlings. We are able to work on all of our projects without being inidated with kits. If we have 5-7 kits from each doe we could not breed as many at a time, and since we have smaller kindlings we are able to foster any kits from first time moms very easily.
In about 2 months we should have 20-30 showable kits to choose from. So proud of our ladies for working so hard this month.
We were able to breed a little of everything this month, though we didn't work as much on our harlis or VMs and our hollands are slacking as usual. We have our next baby boom on the 1-4th so hopefully next month will go ad well as this one did!

Tonight we made a color coded board since our for our kits. We are breeding for nationals, so we are working hard. We have lost 2 kits total in the last month and have a total of 18 kindlings. When people ask why I like small kindlings, this is why. I have a variety of genetics and the ability to put rabbits together to get the best combinations without having to worry being completely inidated with kits. If I get 3 or 4 insted of 5-8 I still usually have a keeper, and I have fewer culls to rehome.
Now if I can just get my hollands to step in up with breeding...

This little cutie is my only keeper doe from December. She is very cute and upright with high rufus and a very cute little face and a wide chest. She is one of the only kits that didn't lose her mane, and one of the only ones I didn't put out in my rabbitry since she was smaller and I wanted her to fill out (I kept 3 inside and they all kept mane) . She lost a little mane density since I put her outside last week, but not as much as the other so hopefully I can eventually show her. We just installed a new swamp cooler so hopefully that will help with our strange mane loss.

Some of our current kits. These cuties just left the next box. NFS. This blue tort is beautiful and he poses so well already. His ears are a bit much, but he might grow into them. The black tort has the cutest head and ears ever. He has nice bone and wide little feet, but he looks like he might peak early as he grows. They are still young so they have time to grow, but the blue tort looks with he will have a better topline and headmount, while the black tort is short with great bone so he might fill out better with age.

Ready For Homes!
These 6 cuties are available. Price in comments. All were born early December and will be priced as pets. We seem to have problems with our kits losing their top manes as soon as they go out to our rabbitry. We assumed this was mane chewing, but all of these kits were in individual cages. We are starting to think it might be due to heat and humidity, so we will have to find a solution.

#1 tort doe. This tiny doe has very nice flank wool and will likely grow back her mane. She is a smaller doe, and is easy to handle and cuddle.

#2 Orange buck. this boy is on the larger side (parents are both under 4 lbs) and lacks the wool to be anything other then a pet. He is a project color so a harder color to find in the lionhead breed. His color is stunning and he likes attention and pets, but is not too excited about being posed.

#3 tort buck. This boy also has full flank wool and a nice bib with the same breakage at the top of his mane. he has a very cute, compact body and Its a shame that his mane is ruined or I would have shown him. personality wise, hes a sweet boy and he is easy to work with and love on.

#4 Orange and black tort harliquin buck. This boy has the same mane loss, but im not sure his will fill out much more them this. His parents have great manes, but this is a project color so consistency is not great. He is a bigger boy, with bright color and he is a bit of a goof. He loves play time and is an independent boy, but he is also very good about letting me groom him.

#5 blue buck. This boy is a very tiny, spunky little guy. He loves to be the center of attention when he warms up to people, and he has so much energy. He will be small, and he holds a nice pose but he is from a kindling out of a new buck and these kits are not holding mane or flank wool so i decided not to keep his sire. He is a lighter blue and buts beautiful. Perfect for a cute/tiny pet.

#6 tort buck. This is the larger of the two tort bucks I am posting. He has a slightly longer build then the smaller buck. He had a few stray bits of his top mane that I trimmed so they could come back in even. He is a beautiful buck, but I don't need a buck. He is more laid back and calm then his smaller brother, and he lets me groom him and pet him without and issue at all. Over all, a nice buck that will be a wonderful pet.

We had an awful couple of weeks, but our friends made our week end so much better. We were spoiled with some amazing new rabbits. Look at this beauty from Little Star Rabbitry. This is Little Star's Arden. We were allowed to choose between this guy and another stunner who should be on the show tables. We chose this guy because he has parts we need, but it was a hard decision.
We really hope he will help with our mane density, and we love how wide he is. A nice blue is hard to come by, and he should carry chocolate! We already have plans for him, and a few ladies he can meet when he grows up a bit. He dose not look like he will clear any time soon, but we have a few does who could use his density and his wool is a more felt-like texture as opposed to our wool that tends to look flatter. Hopefully the two types of mane will combine to give us more texture with clean breaks.

We have Fuzzy hollands! SO CHUNKY! I'm in love... This is our first kindlings of hollands for a while and we are beyond excited. We went to visit our Holland/AFL mentor and she must have been good luck. These cuties are out of Homestead Holland's Loofah and Dream Team's City Raptor. They should be Chestnut and Tri.

We had another baby boom. 16 kits from 5 does. We will likely have a few random kindlings over the next week or 2, but we should be mostly done until the 1st of next month. We have 2 torts from our new Nobel Heirs doe, two from our new Chocolate doe, and 2 springtrap kits. We also have 10 shaded kits from 2 B.U.D. brood pointed white does we kept to replace our old foster does. Hopefully they will give us something nice, but all we expect is that they will be good foster moms with the size and condition that allows they to feed an extra kit or 2 if needed.

Happy St. Patties day from Gunn Bunn's Bengal the possible VC chestnut doe.

Our first home grown agouti doe. Love this girls width and her short/wide shoulders. She has a very smooth top line and a very nice hindquarter. Her head is nice, but her ears are a little thin. her biggest fault is her mane density (story of our lives right now with projects) but she can pair up with one of our dense tort bucks (maybe our new VM tort) and that should help a lot. Over all, nice little doe. We have another in the box, so fingers crossed they are nice too!

Gunn Bunn's Supermassive Black Hole. Born early December and he is still so small he wont make minimum show weight... keeping this little guy to see how he matures since he is out of a new buck. My December kits are growing sooo slow its killing me. Im all for a compact buck, but hes soooo tiny! We tried bulking him up and he gained .2 oz in a week. Uggg. Its a good thing hes a little love bug. He will likely go to a pet home, but its important to see how this outcross matures.

Almost done with our preventative treatment for E.C. and parasites today. After any death in the rabbitry, we clean everything just in case. While we are fairly sure our rabbits were poisoned by bad feed, it is still so important for us to keep our rabbits healthy. We completely pulled out all out cages and scrubbed/ power washed the rabbitry. I think im going to have to paint the walls in the rabbitry yellow, and my poor floors have seen better days. Our spraying bucks are really staining them. We bleached everything down and we will be completely scrubbing the rabbitry with ammonia tomarrow. We pulled all the cage pans and we will power wash and sanitize them tomarrow too.
The rabbitry tends to get dusty during the winter months, so it was needed. We bleach the floor down often, but the walls dont get as much attention.
The rabbits seemed to enjoy their day out in the sun. I'm sure they will be happy to have a cleaner rabbitry too.

I just love how these kits are coming out. They looks so nice. I think the split face harli will be staying and the magpie will be going to a friend if the s*x change fairy doesn't pop up and mess with us. These definitely look like 2 very nice little does, so fingers crossed they stay that way. Just look at their wide heads and feet.
The magpie has Beautiful blue face marking and 2 blue front legs that extend up her shoulder. She has lighter marking, but stunning light eyes. Sooo pretty.
Spring Trap is getting up their in age, so I am really excited to get a few more kits from her. I knew she would do good things for my harlis.
