‼️HOW TO: TREAT BUMBLEFOOT‼️
Treating bumblefoot is definitely something that must be done as soon as possible! Maintaining a clean environment is crucial for limiting bumble cases on your farm/homestead. If your pet gets even the smallest cut and then walks around in dirty places or even steps in p**p, bumble will develop! Bumble can even appear just from staying in muddy conditions for multiple days if the weather has been nasty, so make sure you have plenty of dry places for your pets to go to!
🦆Here’s step by step instructions on how we treat bumblefoot on our farm!
1.) Let your animal soak in water. We try to let them soak for 30 minutes at least! (If your animal getting treated is a duck then this will be easy to do)
*make sure you soak every night to clean the wound -add epsom salt to the bath after day 1*
2.) Use an alcohol wipe to sterilize the area that has bumble
3.) Using a scalpel, cut the scab off of the wound. Continue cutting until you see healthy pink skin! Make sure that all of the brown scab has been cut off!
4.) Rinse the wound with hen wound spray
5.) Pack the open wound with UNMEDICATED Neosporin and silver honey. (As the wound heals you can use just silver honey, but I like to pack with neosporin for the first few days)
6.) Use gauze to create a thick padding for your animal to step on keeping as much pressure off of the wound as possible!
7.) Use vet wrap to secure the gauze (ensure that the wrap covers the last toe so that it does not fall off while your animal walks around)
⚠️MAKE SURE YOU WEAR GLOVES THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS⚠️
Bumblefoot is a staph infection and is extremely contagious to you and your other flock members. Make sure that your infected animals have a place to stay away from all of the healthy flock members. It’s best to keep the animals who are healing in a place that had a cushioned floor (carpet, blanket, straw, bed, etc..) we keep ours in a large dog kennel with straw! Make sure that the bandages stay dry as well! This means limited access to water to play in. Daily soaks will allow the animals to clean their sinuses if necessary.

You can dilute 1 low dose aspirin in 1 gallon of water and give that to your animals
OR
We give 1mL of LA200 per pound of body weight EVERY OTHER DAY
