K is out in the duck area giving them a treat of some eggs we have that expired. There isn't a single duck to be seen in the back part of the area - of course except Stevie and Billie. Billie hates everyone and Stevie thinks K may try to bring her in the house. They are both keeping their distance and saying forget the treats - just stay away from us 🤣

Lil miss sassafras Stevie has graduated to staying with her flock full time now. We will still bring her in when it gets really cold or rainy. She LOVES it and stays far away from anyone who may try to sn**ch her up to bring her inside. She even runs under the thorny berry bushes to keep us from getting her. 🤦‍♀️🤣 She is still bffs with Billie the swan. The other geese have paired off so they are left to be friends.

When I woke up this morning the blind duck was on her perch (🙄). Stevie has been hanging over there with her. We are iced in and Stevie hasn't been able to go visit her buddies. I think she is taking her frustration out on the poor blind duck :( I was waiting for the blind duck to wallop her with those wings. I swear she hits like a man.

I feel like total crap :( I received a message this morning about 5 ducks that were possibly dumped in Slate Mills (along Rt 50). I was on day 2 of a migraine and didn't check my messages all day. Turns out it was 5 domestic geese. Three were hit, one is missing and one was running around the gas station parking lot. Jenn caught that one and kept it in the car until we were able to get there. We went to look at the three that were hit and discovered one was still alive. :( We brought them home and will have to get the one that was hit to the vet tomorrow if she makes it through the night. We gave her some pain meds and electrolytes and are hoping for the best but she doesn't look all that great :(

We picked Stevie up on Sunday night. Our normal duck vet Dr. Burdett from Companion Animal Hospital was closed on Monday...

We picked Stevie up on Sunday night. Our normal duck vet Dr. Burdett from Companion Animal Hospital was closed on Mondays so Jenn asked the humane society's vet Blake Lloyd from Northfork Animal Clinic if he could look at her. He said to bring her in even tho geese weren't exactly his specialty. I met Jenn and she took the goose in for an exam.

After seeing she only had a fractured skull we decided to see how it went for a little while and hoped she would recover. I think we made the right decision. :)

These were two of the five that didn't make it :( The third one disappeared and we couldn't find her. We had people look...

This was Stevie the night we picked her up - we literally thought she was dead - she would have suffered if we didn't try to move the dead geese together so I could get a photo of them for my "quit dumping animals" gripe post. She started moving her leg when Jenn went to move her.

She was laying on her back down a little hill. I think her head was sort of stuck under her at a weird angle.
