All the babies are getting so big!!
I have branches everywhere outside of their cages to get them to climb, jump, and run, this way they can be the little squirrels that they are ❤️

Little naked guy who came in last night.
Definitely mange mites he was treated last night and then we had a little visit this morning at Madison Veterinary Hospital and he should be just fine in time 😊
A little quarantine for this guy in a warm incubator!

Today broke my heart…

The Porcupine we rescued Tuesday was unfortunately, beyond saving. She had been shot multiple times and the damage was just too severe.

She didn’t deserve to be treated this way. Many people don’t like porcupines because they are under the impression that these animals “shoot their quills”. I hear this all the time and it simply isn’t true.

Porcupines CAN NOT SHOOT THEIR QUILLS.
If someone’s dog has a mouth full of quills it is because they attempted to bite a porcupine. The quills attach to anything that makes contact with them. These animals are not fast and this is their ONLY line of defense. They curl in a ball when afraid and allow their quills to protect them.

Porcupines can not shoot their quills.

The only ones doing the shooting around here are the people…

First babies of the season 🥰
These 4 were found inside a engine of a car yesterday! The auto shop called Farm River Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Karyn instructed him on bringing them back to Wallingford with the owner of the car to see if they can be reunited with mom. Unfortunately we both got a call last night that it did not work. They spent the night getting a warm bath, hydrated and a warm bed ❤️

This is by far the most excited I have ever been about a donation 😊 Wild Mammal Babies the first 48 hours is what we call our Rehabbers bible! This book has everything you need to know and more, honestly there is not a question that you will have as a rehabber that won’t be in this book. (That’s just how awesome it is) The learning never stops for us and I’m sure I speak for all rehabbers when I say we would be lost without this book. I know I was lost without it, if I didn’t know something I would frantically call my mentor 🤣 now I can actually look it up on my own and learn new things before I would have to even deal with them. This book is also written by two CT Wildlife Rehabbers Deb Gode and Irene Ruth!

New intake tonight. Poor guy was hit by a car in North Haven. Thankfully there was a couple who got him out of the road and safe until I could come get him! Say a little prayer for this guy ❤️ calling the vet in the morning and we will go from there. Right now he’s stable warm and doing okay.

Stevie girl says GOOD MORNING! She’s doing so good 🥰 she came in blind in both eyes and here we are a month and half later we have full eye sight in her left eye and working so hard to get her right eye back 🤞🏽 we are so close! Hopefully she will be released during the spring!
