Amy is not hand raised so even after two years of handling she still doesn’t trust. I’m really hoping she has a gosling or two as it’s been a couple of years with her mate. She will make a good mother, very feisty and protective! It’s a case of enter the hutch at your own risk ⚠️

Today we used the dehydrator my mum bought us for the first time. My hubby cleaned the tumeric harvest and stacked the dehydrator. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

We welcomed the fifth and final calf (for now 😆) this morning. We missed the birth yet again but it’s a boy and he’s super cute 🥰

We now have two paddocks to weed. Our target weeds for paddock two this weekend are: fireweed, thistles, and a few lantana that had re emerged.

The geese are laying which means the spring is near. I’m hoping we get an emden/embden gosling or two this year or I’ll be looking at replacing the pair. Breeding geese can be very hit and miss. The emden/embden breed of geese is bordering on endangered in Australia and I’m trying to raise their numbers by breeding them ☺️

When we moved onto our property almost 7 years ago we inherited 6 Guinea fowl. We had never seen these animals before but as they started getting eaten by foxes I felt compelled to save them. We built a makeshift hutch from an old existing structure on the property and I managed to train them to roost in the shelter at night. I found a stash of eggs and I incubated them and here we are now with a 40+ army of them. Turns out they are a very useful addition to the farm. Here are some of the benefits of keeping Guinea fowl.
- organic pest control
- eggs (from September to May)
- meat
- poultry manure from bedding
- snake alarm
- fox and anything else that doesn’t
belong on the farm alarm
- Endless music and entertainment
You either get use to their sounds or don’t 🤣

I feel so bad for the animals on a cold and windy day. So treated the chickens to warm porridge 😋

Calf number three dropped this morning. This heifer won’t be two till November so was a bit young. Glad she calved just fine and bonded with her baby right away 🤗
