Spikes of Celosia in the softest pink. The little florets up the spike of this flower slowly opens with time which then makes them ready for picking.

Seed collecting is both a labour intensive task but at the same time very therapeutic.

I have collected these Cornflower seeds and will dry them until their time to be sown again.

We live in a world where everything is disposal from plastic/paper cups, plates, fast food containers and all types of packaging when we buy from large retail stores. It seems that being disposable is the in thing since it makes our lives easier. However, seed saving is one of the few things that remain that allows us to grow and save seeds that can be reused season after season with the same quality. No need for disposing of them hence ensuring sustainability.

To grow requires patience but I am so excited about these Larkspur that I am running out of patience. I have been watching them very closely and they have buds and some even a few flowers. I know I have to be patient but I just want to see them bloom already.

We can’t hurry up Nature I guess and all in good time.

Cornflowers or Bachelors Buttons seem to be a forgotten flower these days but I am so glad it’s doing a come back. Representing positive hope for the future, the Cornflower is a humble reminder of nature’s simple beauty and the fullness of life’s cycle.

Roses have to truly be my favourites. These flowers started me on the journey of flower farming in the Vaal. I must say I am so enjoying being a farmer, there’s something so rewarding about it. It’s like having a blank canvas and you get to fill it with colourful blooms. It’s just the joy of seeing something you planted and nurtured grow into blooms that can be used to bring joy to others.

Just do what you do and if you enjoy it, do more of it. Not for someone else, not to keep up, not out of stress, not to compete but for yourself. The growth of a plant and the blooming of the flower is for its own benefit, and so too should we adopt the art of growing ourselves and blooming for ourselves.
