Fantastic fotograph of one of our guests from a leopard with a kil in a tree🐯

Did you know that leopards are hunters that drag their prey up into trees to protect it from other predators like lions, hyenas, and jackals? They can carry prey that is two to three times their own weight!

After our ostrich pino had a argument with the caracal her eye looked really bad and we needed to put stiches in her third eyelid. Because of the treatment she had to be in a small enclosure and today it was time for her to go out. She was soooooooooooo happy. The staff was less excited.

When the staff played with you,Your belly is full……………than its time to take a nap.

Hello everybody!
After a quick break from social media activities, we are back again with a new story!

This little zebra arrived today at Umbani. Unfortunately, her mother died some days ago and the owner did not know how to feed and manage her.
Yesterday, he called us and told us her story, so today we arranged to pick her up.
We are feeding her and we will constantly be monitoring her. Tomorrow she will be checked by the vet.

We are looking forward to tell you how she is doing! 🦓

Today we are heartbroken, we have just experienced something very sad.

This morning we found one of our beloved Nyalas laying on the ground, killed by one of the snares settle by poachers. At the moment is very hard to deal with our feelings, we are sad, we are angry.

We are aware that a systemic and comprehensive approach is needed to tackle those social issues that drive poaching.

We must act, and we must act now!

Hello everybody, the Umbani team is glad to introduce you to this brand new project!

In the background of 800 hectares land, belonging to Monkey Mountain Family Lodge, we are currently building up our future surgery room, the first facility that will allow us to take care of wild animals from the entire area. Even so there is much more than that: our idea of doing conservation is an harmonization of rescue, clinical care, rehabilitation and reintroduction of indigenous animals in the wild, combined with the goal of setting down an enclosed ecosystem for protecting and studying wild species.

The rehabilitation process itself, has a wider prospective than rehabilitating single animals, which is just one of the goals. Such an activity gives us the opportunity to monitor a vast range of ecological changes and anthropogenic impact on wildlife.
Toxicological investigations as well as screenings for infectious diseases will give us the possibility of monitoring respectively pollution and emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases.

Still not sure of what we are talking about? Keep following us to get further explanations!
