It finally happened...Vinny has been adopted!!!

Aw man, this was a tough one for me. With every litter, I try to mourn the loss of them to adoption day a little bit each week. This helps me appreciate them in the moments they are with me and makes it easier to let them go. Sometimes I cry and sometimes I don't. This time I cried, kinda a lot.🥲

But, you know, we really couldn't be happier for Vinny b/c he is going home with Emily Dean, a gal I have worked closely with for years now. She, her husband Cory and their dog Charlie are going to give Vinny a great, loving home.

We miss him already but he's only moving a few miles away and we will get to visit him often. BTW Emily, we'll be over tonight...I'll bring my own sleeping bag.

PS Emily, what about 'Vin Diesel'? 😆

UPDATE: Vinny has been adopted!!!

Vinny is such a good boy. We'd keep him if we hadn't already adopted his sister. He is a 6 month old rez dog (means his mom was picked up on a reservation) who is part Shar Pei, Cattle Dog and Pit Bull. He's been well socialized, uses a dog door, walks well on leash, is basically house trained, is good in the car, happily sleeps in his crate at night, loves to play with other dogs and is super sweet, silly and smart. You might wonder, 'What's wrong with him?' Not much, really. He does chase our chickens (which we are working on) and he is a little nervous when he meets new people but with continued socializing his confidence will grow.

We took Ronni and Vinny (adoptable) to Santa Rita Park a few days ago. They handled the chaos pretty well.

Vinny (brown and white) is available for adoption through Blackhat Humane Society in Durango, CO. He is basically house trained, sleeps quietly in his crate at night, walks nicely on leash, has attended a few puppy classes (free courtesy of Diane's Clever K9s, LLC), can use a dog door, travels well in the car and is sweet, silly and cuddly. Seriously, if you're in the market for a new puppy, you can't go wrong with Vinny : )

We've been taking Ronni to puppy class with Diane Wray at Diane's Clever K9s, LLC. When we told her about Ronni's adoptable brother, Vinny, Diane offered to have us bring him to the last two classes which was so nice of her. They both did really well.

We did some work on the agility equipment which included these two squishy donut things. The goal is to get them to put their front feet on them or have them sit on top. I really had not expectation that they would sit on them but they both did it! I was kinda blown away. They rode around in our van and in the cart a lot growing up and I think all that balancing has given them their sea legs : )

Vinny is a super good boy, knows 'sit' and is learning 'down', walks nicely on leash, uses a dog door to go potty and is super silly and fun. He was born July 27, 2024 and is 17 weeks old. We haven't DNA tested him yet but his sibling is cattle dog, pit bull, Shar-pei, supermutt, german shephard and sheltand sheepdog (littermates can have different dads so Vinny's DNA might be a little different) He is available for adoption through Blackhat Humane Society

Vic went home with his new owner Babs Brattin aka Barb on Saturday. She has reported back that her other dog, a 9 year old anatolian shephard, accepted him right away and that Vic thinks her cat is 'awesome'. He's loving his new fenced yard and was quiet his first night at home. I think they will be very happy together 😀

This is Vinny's 2nd time walking on leash and his first time walking around Home Depot and he was so damn good. They both were. People kept commenting on how calm and good they were.

Anthony and I have done all this work to socialize them and I always worry, "Did I do enough? Did I do it right? Did I make mistakes?" I was grinning ear to ear and couldn't shut up about how good Vinny and Ronni were being so I think I can worry less : )

If you've thought about getting a rescue puppy...it doesn't get much better than this. Vinny is Valerie's last puppy available for adoption.

After the sun came up, the snow started to sublimate into a dreamy fog. It's the kind of light that makes photographers grab their camera. This is our Ronni and foster puppies, Vinny and Vic, on our morning walk.

Sounds like Vic may be adopted so that just leaves Vinny! He and his 7 littermates were born at our house on July 27 and he has been handled and socialized daily. He knows how to use a dog door, is well on his way to being house trained, knows how to sit to ask for things and is pretty darn smart. He's living here with us in Durango.
