Working on our loose leash walking skills together 🥰🥰
Having a well trained happy dog is not impossible. Many people give up on the work when it gets a little tough. Training is work yes, but the reward is so worth it! Not sure where to start? DM me today to get started.
Welcome to Part 9️⃣ of our DIY series for training your furry friends!
We’re back with our friend Apollo who showed us in Part 8 one way that owners can teach their pups the down command. Part 9 is focused on putting together the sit and down commands with no pressure and beginning to progress to the down stay command.
The keys to this lesson are:
🐶 As your pup is consistently able to execute the sit and down commands, you should no longer be applying pressure. They should only need you to say the command.
🐶 After learning the down command, a great training progression to make is to the down stay command. This helps to ensure that your dog doesn’t pop up right away after they know they’ve successfully completed the command.
🐶 To start with your progression of the down stay command, you can say “stay” and then repeat “down stay” as you walk around your dog while holding the leash.
🐶 As your dog becomes more comfortable with this command, you may even be able to begin to create space between you and your dog as you saw at the end of the video.

Welcome to Part 8️⃣ of our DIY series for training your furry friends!
Our 8th lesson is focused on a progression of the down command. Today we’re working with Apollo, who is a bigger dog than Kit and isn’t struggling with the same anxiety and reactivity that Kit struggled with in our last lesson.
Today’s lesson is focused on the next step in the progression of the down command. In this stage of teaching the down command, we are going to apply pressure on the leash rather than pressure above their shoulder blades.
The keys to this approach of the down command are:
🐶 The hand slides all the way down to the buckle of the leash and pushes down the side of the shoulder blade. The pressure is steady and gentle so you don’t knock the dog over.
🐶 Then the pressure of the hand goes straight down towards the ground while saying the “Down” command until the dog walks their feet out. Eventually, you won’t need to apply much pressure.
🐶 As soon as the dog goes down, release the pressure and give lots of praise.
🐶 Then you are going to tell the dog to stay. This will keep them in place until you want them to move. No other commands should be given during that time.
🐶 When you want your dog to follow you, give them the “Heel” command. It is important not to pull the dog up. You will want to just walk forward holding the leash.

Welcome to Part 7️⃣ of our DIY series for training your furry friends! Our 7th lesson is focused on introducing the down command. Our friend Kit is back to help us out today. He is 4 years old and is continuing to work with us to learn structure and obedience to help with his reactivity and anxiety. The keys to introducing the down command are:🐶 Finding the spot just above their shoulder blades to apply pressure using only the thumb and the index finger. 🐶 Applying pressure that is not forceful and does not push the dog down. The pressure should simply encourage the dog to go down on their own. 🐶 Releasing the pressure and giving lots of praise and affection when your dog executes the down command.🐶 Being sure to say “down” as you apply the pressure. Allow a count of “one one thousand” between each time you say “down”. Follow us and stay tuned for future micro DIY lessons! Don’t have the time to implement these DIY lessons? Welcome to Part 6️⃣ of our DIY series for training your furry friends!
Our 6th lesson is focused on introducing the sit command. Our friend Kit will be helping us with the basics. Kit is 4 years old and is working with us to learn structure and obedience to help with his reactivity and anxiety.
The keys to introducing the sit command are:
🐶 Teaching your pup on a leash and in the heel position.
🐶 Applying some pressure to their backside to teach them to sit and show them what their expectations are.
🐶 Releasing the pressure and giving lots of praise and affection when your dog sits.
🐶 Keeping up with using your hand for slight pressure throughout the first day even as your dog starts to sit on command so they continue to understand expectations.

Welcome to Part 5️⃣ of our DIY series for training your furry friends!
Our 5th lesson is focused on keeping our dogs from jumping on others. As always, we’ll be mastering this command into bite-sized pieces, and repetition is key!
The keys to preventing your dog from jumping on others are:
🐶 Set them up for success by first letting them drag the leash around the house.
🐶 When you’re just starting out, step on the leash as you show them affection to prevent your pup from jumping up unexpectedly.
🐶 When you have some time practicing that under your belt, give the leash a quick pull for correction anytime your dog tries to jump on you or others.
🐶 Only praise your dog with affection when they have all four feet on the ground so they know that jumping is wrong.
So why is mastering this so beneficial? Preventing your dog from jumping on others:
🐶 Keeps those around you safe, especially for bigger dogs.
🐶 Teaches your dog manners, which allows you to bring your dog more places.
🐶 Gives you both a more enjoyable experience together.

We’ve added a second odor for Bentley in our @sniffindustries boxes! He’s caught on to the game and we are having a blast.
I am over the moon excited about the progress these two have made! This is Bentley’s 4th on the boxes and clove odor. He is indicating on his own! Next step will be to make the hides more difficult and then move them outside! Sniff Industries
