This 3yr old boy is coming along beautifully! Took to people almost instantly, halters and leads beautifully, whoas on command as well as as soon as we stop while leading, is doing outstanding with ground tying, loves spending time with people, adjusts to the flag and other “spooky” items and noises” quickly. So proud of the progress he has made since arriving on June 7th!

He’s here and so it is now officially day 1 of our training journey. This boy traveled a long way and is definitely coming around great from being out in the wild for his 3 years of life to now being surrounded by amazing people and having a family who comes and visits him everyday and absolutely loves him.💕

First day with this boy and his journey💕

Great 1st training day for this almost 4yr old! He picks up on things quickly, is eager to learn and please, gives it his all. We will be working on dropping his head, tucking his nose when backing up, clean transitions between gates, smooth spins, clean stops and then head to time on the flag in preparation for the upcoming sorting season! Follow along with us as we get him ready for this coming season. Exciting time ahead for Sunny💙

Horses see us for who we are. Not for who we were or who we may become. For some clients, this is the first time they have experienced such unconditional acceptance. This can be life changing.

Parents, let your daughters grow up to be horse girls, because they will learn quickly and repeatedly that life isn’t fair, that hard work is often trumped by Lady Luck, and that every defeat, no matter how terrible, is temporary. Let them dream big and kick on. Let them learn confidence, grace and grit. Let them build big muscles and strong backs.

Let your daughters grow up in the barn. Let them learn that buckets need filling and stalls need cleaning, even when it’s raining, even when it’s frozen, even when they have a different idea for how the day should go.

Teach them to drive trucks and trailers and ATVs. Teach them to change tires and wrap legs and give shots. And let them leave a spur mark, or a bit rub, or a bandage bow, and let them deal with the shame of causing pain to an animal they love.

Let them grow up with horses and with good horse people, because it will teach them to be humble, and to be resilient, and to be brave.

The Tale of the Fairy Knots
The knots that appear in a horse's mane are known as Fairy Knots. During the night, it is said that a group of fairies wander out in search of horses. Once their ideal horse is found, they actually twist their manes to form little stirrups and reins on the horse. They then ride the horses all through the night and take them on magical adventures. The horses are always returned by morning, but the knots are left for when the fairies come again.

: Being able to assess your equine friend's weight and body condition is a valuable skill, especially as we head into the colder months. A horse with good body weight will fare better in winter weather than a horse on the skinny side, particularly if it’s an older horse.

The Henneke Body Condition Scoring Chart is an important tool that provides a standard scoring system by rating the horse's physical condition on visual appraisal and palpation (feel) of six key conformation points: the amount of flesh or fat covering along the neck; the withers; down the crease of the back; at the tailhead; ribs: and behind the shoulder at the girth.

A body condition score of somewhere between 4 and 6 is ideal for most horses. However, keep in mind that in some disciplines (like racing, polo and eventing) and some life stages (like pregnancy) a higher or lower body score might be more appropriate.

If you think your horse is too fat or too thin (or even if you are unsure), have a chat with your veterinarian to discuss the appropriate condition and a feeding and exercise program for your animal!

When you’re working with your horse, remember that you’re not trying to perfect every single lesson everyday; you’re just trying to improve each one a little bit. If the horse is doing better today than yesterday, quit – you’ve done your job. It’s time to move on to a new exercise. The worst thing you can do to a horse is keep drilling on the same exercise until he absolutely hates it and gets a bad attitude. Work on the exercise, make it better than yesterday and then quit. - Clinton
