Wesley 🩵✨

You may remember this handsome guy I posted back in April! He is from and came to stay with us for a few days while his foster mom had some extra long work days. He has been a perfect house guest and made friends with Reef too (he is obsessed lol)

Wesley will be available for adoption this week and he will be an amazing addition to someone’s home. His foster mom has put a ton of great work into him in teaching him how to be a well behaved, confident and happy guy. Someone will be incredibly lucky to call him their own! We just love this sweet guy 🙂

I thought I’d make a post explaining the meaning of “Heartcove” and why I chose it! 🩵🌊

The name of my business has a boat load of special memories behind it and very sentimental meaning for me; “Heartcove German Shepherds” was the name of my mom’s GSD kennel while I was growing up. Maverick, Dixie, Sadie, Breeze, Gideon, and all of my mom’s other amazing dogs are what started this all for me. I’ve shared a few photos of those amazing dogs here, most of which are no longer with us but we still think of them and miss them every day!

These are the dogs that sparked my love for not only the GSD breed, but for dogs, dog training, and dog sports as a whole. My dream for a long time has been to start my own training business to help dogs and their families understand each other better and live more enriched lives. I am extremely excited to continue on the Heartcove legacy in a bit of a different light, and thankful to my mom for allowing me to use this name for something so important to me 🩵

This pretty lady is my current foster puppy, a 4 month old GSD puppy, and she has been a dream! I have had her since she was 2 weeks old, and I have loved every minute of getting to know her personality. She will be adopted hopefully soon, but it will definitely be a very bittersweet goodbye 💜

Happy (late) National Puppy day!! Here’s a few photos of my sweet boys as pups 🫶🏼🩵

Puppy raising, socialization and training is one of my absolute favourite things. I have raised 3 puppies of my own now, and so many foster puppies too! I’m so excited to create some awesome puppy programs in the future to help owners set their puppies up for success from the very beginning 🫶🏼

Meet my dogs… part 2! 🐾

This handsome fella is my 22 month old German Shepherd; Nash! ⭐️

I rescued him at 4 months old from a local shelter where he was at risk of euthanasia due to overcrowding. As soon as I saw his photo I knew we were going to get him out of there lol. I originally didn’t intend to adopt him when we pulled him from the shelter, he actually even had an awesome foster lined up. After I had met him, spent a few hours with him, and saw how he settled into his foster… I knew in my heart that he had to be mine. Nash has one of the biggest, most silly personalities I’ve ever seen in a dog. He is my big baby and keeps me on my toes, always!

Nash unfortunately was diagnosed with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency when he was 10 months old, and we have been navigating that for the last year. He is now more stable than he has ever been and I’m so thrilled his health is in much better shape.

Nash is incredibly smart (maybe TOO smart), he will work for just about anything; food, a ball, a blade a grass… he’ll do it lol. He is my naughty boy and while he mostly stays out of trouble… he has his moments! I grew up with show line German Shepherds, and Nash being a working line type has been a whole new ball game for me! He has taught me SO much about high drive dogs, and truly made me a better handler in a lot of ways. He struggled a lot with reactivity to people and dogs as a puppy due to lack of early socialization, but we put in a lot of work and he is incredibly neutral to stimulus now!

I’m very proud of how far he’s come, and can’t wait to see how far we’ll go. Even on the days he drives me crazy, this boy has a very big piece of my heart and I wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

Meet my dogs! 🐾

My heart and soul in dog form… Reef 🩵

Reef is a 2 year old Staffy/Akita mix. He was still in his mama’s belly when she flew over to Canada from Barbados… so although he is technically from Barbados, he was born here! I fostered his mom Ocean, whelped her litter, and raised the 5 puppies until 9 weeks old. Reef always stood out not just in his unique coat pattern, but mostly in his personality! He was always the most confident, social, and cuddly in his litter. I fell in love with him pretty much the moment he was born… but as he continued to grow he really just started to check off all the boxes in what I was looking for in a dog! With puppies, there is never a guarantee how they will turn out, but Reef continued to exceed every expectation of what I was looking for as he grew up. Maybe it’s that I was lucky enough to raise him from day one, but I have never felt a more special connection with a dog.

Reef is confident, social but not in your face, never met a stranger, excellent with dogs of all shapes, sizes and temperaments. He is incredibly intelligent, biddable, and LOVES to work. Given his origin and knowing basically nothing of his genetic history… I can very safely say I won the lottery with this dog and he is worth his weight in gold. This is not always the way it goes with rescue dogs, so I count myself very lucky.

I hope to play around in some CKC obedience or Rally O classes with him this year!

Reef has already played “demo dog” many times for me when training rescue dogs, and I’m very excited that I get the pleasure of starting this career with the best sidekick possible. 🩵🐾

Hello! my name is Camille Hearty, and I am the owner of Heartcove Canine! 🐾🌊

Here’s a little bit about myself!

Since I can remember, my whole life has pretty much revolved around animals. While I was growing up my mom bred, showed in conformation, and competed in CKC obedience with her German Shepherd Dogs. I was very lucky to have been surrounded by well bred, well trained, and even tempered dogs from a very young age. I always loved attending classes and trials with my mom, and being around all things dog related. When I was 7 years old, I also began riding horses and enjoyed the hunter jumper discipline for many years! Fast forward a few more years; my mom rescued a little 4 month old potcake from the Turks & Caicos Islands. Eli inspired “Eastern Ontario Potcake Rescue”, which my mom founded in 2016, and I have played an active role in helping operate since I was 13yrs old! Since then we have rescued and placed almost 950 dogs in their forever homes. I am now the VP of EOPR, and I am beyond grateful for all I have learned in rescue over the last 8 years. I have had the pleasure of fostering over 250 dogs; from raising litters of puppies to training reactive and fearful dogs. Aside from rescue work with EOPR, I have also worked in pet retail since I was 15 years old, worked in a dog boarding kennel, and volunteered at various animal shelters in the Caribbean. I currently have 2 rescue dogs of my own; Reef is a Staffy/Akita mix, and Nash is a GSD! You’ll see them on here often:)

All of these experiences have sparked a great passion for training dogs, learning all that I can about dog behaviour, and helping dogs and their owners. My dream for a long time now has been to operate my own training business, and I am very excited to make that dream a reality!

I am currently enrolled in a fantastic professional pet dog trainer program, and while I will not be accepting clients until I have graduated from the program later this year, I am so excited for the future! Thank you for being here, and thank you for supporting me! ✨🩵
