and other loud noises trigger and traumatize our animal companions in ways from the obvious to more subtle symptoms. The time to prepare is right now - fireworks can be starting in your neighborhood as we speak!.
I'll be LIVE tomorrow morning at 10:30am PT on YouTube and Facebook - Tune in, and talk to me about your cats so I can help!
Don't view your cat's avoidance of the litter box as an act of spite or stupidity. So many people call my office and claim their cat "should know better than that". If a cat isn't using the litter box, it's causing stress. Even if you're sure the problem is behavioral, please have your cat checked by the veterinarian first to rule out potential medical issues. To delay that may cause your cat to suffer.
It's also crucial to look at the litter box set-up. Is it clean? Large enough? Good location? Can your cat comfortably get in the box? Does your cat feel safe in the box or is there a risk of being ambushed by another cat? Are there an inadequate number of boxes for the number of cats in the home? Perhaps the cat dislikes the litter? It's up to you to be a detective and figure out the underlying cause for the litter box aversion.
Look at stress in your home as well. Do all the cats get along? Is the home chaotic? Are schedules inconsistent? Has there been trauma? Punishment?
Did you know that kittens inherit there boldness and confidence from their father?
Studies show that if the male cat is confident and bold this trait will be shown in his offspring…
But it’s not just nature that influences a kittens personality, we all know the big nature vs nuture debate.
So unfortunately if the queen has a stressful pregnancy or there is a traumatic event, this will ultimately have an affect on the development and overall temperament 🐈
Ready to meet a werewolf cat?
The Lykoi is not a man made, designer breed, but is a natural mutation that randomly occurs in the feral population. Noted for it’s partial hairlessness, and unique “roan” patterned coat, it has earned the reputation of it’s name which roughly translates to “wolf” in Greek.
The Lykoi is a fun loving, intelligent breed who loves to interact with humans, cats, and even dogs. They are a medium built cat, with slightly slender legs and muscular body. One of their most striking features is their facial “mask”. Their coat can range from mostly coated, to nearly hairless during times of “molting” which occurs about twice yearly.

The concept of working for food is one you've probably seen done with zoo animals for enrichment. It's also something that could be very useful with your own cat in terms of environmental enrichment. It can provide added activity and playtime to help with boredom issues. In a multicat household where cats are picking on each other, it can be very helpful to give them activities that are constructive and rewarding. If your cat is on a reduced calorie diet, offering food through puzzle feeders can help kitty eat slowly and feel more satisfied.
There are puzzle feeders available for both wet or dry food. You can even create homemade ones. Here's more information on getting started with puzzle feeders.

Because cats are so incredibly nimble and graceful, we tend not to think of them as vulnerable to the pain of osteoarthritis, a disease characterized by worn-down joint cartilage. But research has suggested that 90 percent of cats develop signs of arthritis over time, with some 45 percent — almost...

If your cat is very agitated or upset, the best thing to do is offer some space. If the cat wants to hide, let them do that. Lower the lights in the room and allow the cat time to feel safe in order to calm down. Let the cat set the pace in terms of what's needed.

Agility | Learn the Course
If your cat can climb stairs and jump, it can probably compete in agility! The CFA Agility Course starts with a set of stairs, continues with fences, tunnels, hoops, and poles that the cat must weave its way through.
Sound tough? It isn't really. . . handlers guide the cat through the course by getting it to follow a toy. Most cats are so eager to catch the toy that they chase it through the obstacles and are scored by their speed. It's great fun for the cat and even more fun for the handler!

Kitties and lilies don't mix. Keep your feline friends safe this Easter and keep lilies out of your house. All parts of the plant are toxic to cats including the pollen.

Cat hair might be difficult to get rid of at times, but removing it from your clothes is actually a lot simpler than you might think.
