Yukon is one of the most friendly dogs I've ever met! He is very curious and a super smart puppy! ❤️

Starting tomorrow, July 9th, I will be on vacation until July 16th. I will miss all the pups, and can't wait to see them when I return. ❤️

Don't let the 4th of July celebrations 🎆 affect your pup. Help keep your furry friend calm with the following this holiday weekend:
-stay away from firework shows; the easiest way to avoid firework anxiety is to distance your dog from them
-create a safe haven; keep dogs indoors with windows and curtains closed 🏠
-provide distractions for comfort, like a chew toy or lick mat (Fun fact, licking releases a happiness hormone for pups!)
-give anxiety meds (from your vet), calming bites (like CBD treats) or use a thunder shirt
-last, but not least, get your dog lots of daytime exercise; a tired pup is less likely to stress out 🐕

As a runner, I couldn't wait to start running with my pup. I did some research to make sure not only that Marlon was ready, but I was prepared. I planned a route we'd be comfortable on, and chose a cooler day.

It didn't go great at first, Marlon was over-excited for a faster pace. It took a quarter mile, but he calmed down and the rest of our 2 mile run went without a hitch!

Now, before you lace up and go, there is some safety information to know.
-Wait until your dog's growth plates are closed to prevent injury. A dog is fully grown usually by 18 months, so then is a good age to start.
-Build your dog's endurance slowly, adding 10% of total mileage each week.
-Watch you dog's body language. They can't tell us when they're tired so you have to keep an eye out for the signs like slowing down, excessive panting, or limping.
-Pick soft surfaces, like grass or sand, instead of concrete or asphalt to protect your dog's paw pads.
-Pick a route and time that won't have many distractions, like other people or dogs. As your dog learns to focus on running, you can go to a multi-use trail or popular park.

No matter the pace or distance, remember to have fun! Dogs make great motivators and training partners!
