Wilma update. We now know the cause of Wilma’s broken jaw and we pray and ask your continued support for her.
Read on for more below...
If you are not familiar with her story, Wilma came to us as an urgent medical rescue over the last week when she arrived in the shelter with a broken jaw. We placed our hold and medical transport brought her north to Broward where the incredible team at LeadER was ready to see her as soon as she arrived.
After Wilma was examined at LeadER Animal Specialty Hospital we learned that her broken jaw was not the result of a fight, or an injury, or rough life on the streets, and our hearts shattered when we learned the cause of her "injury" was that her teeth were so badly infected, it rotted through her jaw bone.
We can't imagine how much pain she had been in and we were not going to allow it to continue one minute longer than it needed to and Wilma went to surgery for a Mandibulectomy, or partial removal of her lower jaw. We are thrilled to report that she came through the procedure like a champ and is recovering at LeadER where she can be supervised 24x7 to ensure that the infection is clearing up and the remaining parts of her jaw are healing the way they should be.
We send our love and thanks to everyone who has supported Wilma so far, and it is YOU who make it possible for us to say yes. You have all made so many miracles these past weeks and we cannot thank you enough. We ask your continued support to make sure that we can cover Wilma’s care AND be ready for the next little one who is out there and will need us soon!
Thank you all so much 🤗
