If you have a breed with a strong guarding instinct ingrained in their DNA, its important to socialise them well. Be a strong leader to your dog. Let them know that you've got things covered, so they don't feel the need to take charge. If not, it can cause anxiety in your dog, leading to reactivity.

Today, we are making a direct appeal to the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to demand that his Government delivers on the promised Kept Animals Bill – vital legislation that will help address several significant animal welfare issues ➡️ https://bit.ly/3XVa9jt

The Bill, and legislation under it, would introduce vital measures, including putting an end to dogs being imported into the country with mutilations such as cropped ears and cracking down on the illegal smuggling of dogs and puppies 💔

While the Government delays, countless dogs, including imported dogs with cropped ears and illegally smuggled puppies and heavily pregnant mums, continue to suffer at the hands of unscrupulous traders. We’ve waited long enough.

Not just a 'Stay & Recall' drill. But working on impulse control. For Bruce to stay when Roxy is called shows good impulse control. This is something that can help with resource guarding, jumping, over-excitement and many other behavioural issues.

Rehoming or rescuing a dog is a wonderful thing to do. Giving a dog a second chance at a happy and fulfilling life. But remember, it's not always simple. While a dog may be grateful to be taken in to a loving home, it's also a lot for them to take in. Be patient and they will repay you with unconditional love and companionship.

An excellent take on the Corgi. They were bred for hearing cattle and did so by nipping at the cow's ankles. The history of a breed and their specific breed characteristics should always be considered when choosing the perfect canine companion for you. Met one of these majestic beasts yesterday, while walking our own dogs (not the one pictured). A Lithuanian Hound. A breed I wasn't familiar with, so have been looking into them. Lithuania's only native dog breed, but not currently recognised by any kennel clubs globally. Shame. He was a wonderful example of an interesting breed. What unusual breeds do you own or have come across?

Visits to the vets are inevitable. Even if just for jabs and boosters. So we always recommend acclimatising new puppies with things they experience there. Regularly check their teeth, ears and eyes so these things aren't scary or uncomfortable when a vet does it. Have them sit and lie down while you flex their joint is also a useful idea. All part of a puppies socialisation. Do you, did you, incorporate this in to your puppy's Socialisation Program?
