Not only a great bonding experience between you and your birds, showers are a fantastic way to help with those pin feathers during a moult! The water and steam dampens the pins making them come off super easy letting those gorgeous new feathers unfold!

Now try to clean p**p with a tissue and watch him try to rip it from your fingers so he can yeet it, or put something down... just to have him throw it away. Obviously more of a summer treat than winter but I was a little bored last night!
We call these little babies Fruit and Veggie Freezes! Make from Rafferty’s Garden baby smooth food with all real fruit and veg it’s the perfect little sometimes food for your birds in the hot weather! And are quick and easy to make! Just dispense the purée into IceCube molds and freeze! They also last in the freezer up to 6-8months!!! How good is that! Let us know what your birdy babies think of these?!

Thought it was about time we introduced you guys to a new chicken! For the last 6 weeks we have been raising this perfect little man! Everyone meet Kingswood 🥰😍 he is now 9 weeks old and growing beautifully and is developing the sweetest personality. As you can see, Datsun is very excited about stealing the hand raising mix haha 😄
Kingswood is the largest sub species of the red tail black cockatoos and we are absolutely thrilled with him 🥰😍🥰😍 he is so perfect!

From the start Jess had a special bond with one of Opal and Jasper's babies... she tried to be strong and Chel advertised him for his forever home with his siblings... only for Jet to wind up where we honestly knew he would be anyway!

Parrot Play dates!
When Chelsea was making chop the other day the wonderful 12year old girl Matilda who adopted Pip came over to help! And she brought Pip for a play date! Gimpy and Pip spent the entire 3 hours or so while Chelsea and Matilda chopped away preening and chatting away together!
Provided you parrot comes from a safe place and hasn’t been exposed to infectious diseases like beak and feather disease parrot play dates are a great way for birds to socialise! After all, birds flock together!

Raspberry Monster!
It’s important to keep an eye on your birdos when they aren’t in their cages, lucky for Chelsea this time Dottie only got into a punnet of raspberries! But it brings me to the point of household items they are potentially dangerous to your feathered friends!
Here is a little list! If you can think of anymore please comment below as I’m just looking in my kitchen as I write this post!
- nonstick cooking equipment like frying pans 🥘
- avocado 🥑
- onion 🧅
- garlic 🧄
- indoor plants 🪴
- chemicals like bleach, oven cleaner, rat and snail baits, fly spray, etc
- human medicine
- incense and some candles (try using soy based waxes) 🕯
- batteries and electrical🔋
- and so many more!
So do what I did after this thief got into my raspberries! Make sure if your bird is out of its cage that it can’t access anything it shouldn’t!

Yes it does take a entire day, the chopping and cooking and mixing and bagging but benefits out weigh the time it takes! Not only is it the healthiest option for our birds nutrition but believe it or not it’s actually sooooooooo much cheaper!
Yes I said cheaper! We already put so much time into loving and caring for our feather babies I think a few extra hours prepping a healthier food option is worth it!

You all know Tonka and Gimpy, well Tonka and Gimpy don’t really know each other! Gimpy is in the process of starting to live inside full time, this has been an adjustment for Tonka who as a macaw is naturally very neophobic due to his past before living with Chelsea, he hates change and even though Gimpy is a small bird he has a big personality and it’s a big change for Tonka! It has taken only two weeks to get these two to share a stand and food but that is because Chelsea is works from home and is able to do little tidbits of training throughout the day so these two feather brains can get used to one another!
Introducing two adult birds, particularly those that are different species and of the same s*x, in this case both males, getting them used to each other takes time, birds aren’t going to instantly like each other just like people and some birds may never get along just like some people will never be the best of friends! But it’s important even if these birds are never besties that they can safely share the same space! In Chelsea’s case she’s lucky that these two are looking like they are going to be friends in the future!

We don’t recommend seed as a staple part of a parrots diet because it’s like giving your parrot McDonalds for every meal...

Little blue babies are growing up so fast!!! Chel is doing an absolutely amazing job with them and they are gaining weight and growing beautifully! Aunty Jess popped over to do a feed and they were a little confused because she's "not the mama"!

We have another rehab! Everyone meet Lulu 🥰 I love how often conures are shocked to find they have feet!!

Aunty Jess had been trying to teach Datsin to do a flip for almost two months and she is getting no where, but in just 15 minutes I showed her how it's done! -Dotty I'm always amazed when a bird picked up a trick fast, dotty was no exception with our "do a flip"! This trick needs a lot of trust! Datsun is happy to hang upside down and scream and flap, being the galah he is, but he does NOT want to do a flip!

Datsun is like any bird and refuses to talk when he can see you're filming him! However I managed to sneak this for you all! Enjoy 😉🤫🥰😍 (Sorry about the camera angles, I had to be sneaky!)

Music is a great way to interact with your birds in a stress free and fun way! You can teach them to dance or use it to calm them down! It can also be used to teach sensitive birds how to get used to noise! As you can see, Gizmo loves to dance! Check out her moves!

Okay real talk, did you know parrots are the 3rd most popular pets but they are the 1st to be rehomed? Despite this, there are only two parrot rescues in our area, and by in our area, I'm talking a few hours drive! Welcoming a parrot into your life and your home is a HUGE commitment, they need so much time, attention, the appropriate diet for each individual bird, vet visits are EXTREEMLY expensive, they are LOUD and MESSY. Parrots bite. It isn't about IF you will get bitten, it's WHEN. They are like two year olds on crack for the next 30-80 years of your life depending on the species 😂😂 That all sounds pretty bad right? And sometimes it can be, sometimes Datsun makes me want to cry I get so frustrated with his antics, but I've learnt to watch his body language, I've learnt how to manage his behaviour and working with Parrot Life Behaviour and Training we are ready to embrace every day. Even with all of that, I still wouldn't change anything, he is so sweet, he makes me laugh daily, he is cheeky and makes everyone who meets him smile, he is incredibly smart and loves to show off his tricks, he has become my most treasured companion and he makes my world brighter, even when he is screaming goodmorning at 10pm and calling my house guests names or barking 😂😂😂 If you every need any help or advice about introducing a feathered baby into your life, message us, we are happy to offer as much advice as we can! -Jess - p.s. yes, he did bite me in the end of that video 😂😂😂 sometimes his kisses are too rough
