Today marks 12 years since I officially opened Kat and Dogs Ohio—and what a journey it’s been! Whether you’ve been with me since the early days or just recently joined, I’m so grateful you’re here.

Running a small business isn’t for the faint of heart—it takes grit, heart, and a lot of dedication. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The pet care world is always evolving, which is why I’m committed to staying educated, informed, and up-to-date so your pets get the thoughtful, professional care they deserve.

And here’s the truth: I’m always learning. If there’s something I could be doing better, a service you’d love to see added, or even a new approach to something I already offer—tell me! I can’t grow without your insight, and I truly want to know what’s working (and what’s not).

Thank you for trusting me with your most beloved companions. Here’s to many more years of caring for your pets like they’re my own. ❤️🐾

Do cats bite? Yes — and here’s why.

Cats don’t usually bite “just because.” Biting is often their last resort after they’ve tried to show us they’re uncomfortable or overwhelmed. A playful nibble from a kitten learning boundaries is very different from a serious bite from an adult cat who feels threatened.

Common warning signs that a bite might be coming include:
🚩 Flattened ears
🚩 Hissing or growling
🚩 Sudden tail flicks
🚩 Swatting or scratching

In my experience, most cats will give some sort of warning first — if we’re paying attention. 🐾

If you do get bitten, don’t brush it off. Cat bites can easily become infected due to bacteria in their mouths, so it’s important to clean the wound and seek medical attention right away.

Understanding the “why” behind a bite helps keep both you and your cat safe and stress-free.

Reunited with my sweet friend Elliott while his parents enjoyed a well-deserved vacation!

Our daily visits were filled with casual chats, familiar routines, and companionship that only comes with trust. Fresh food, clean water, a tidy litter box—and of course, plenty of love.

It was so good to see you again, Elliott. Until next time, my friend!

Thank you so much for the 5-star review, Cheryl!❤️

I first met Cheryl and Polly a couple years ago after the heartbreaking loss of her husband. He and Polly used to enjoy their daily walks together, and Cheryl and her daughter were looking for someone special to continue that routine with her. I’m so honored they chose me. Now I get to see Polly and her mom three days a week, and it’s truly been a joy. 🐾

If you’re navigating a life change and think your pup would benefit from a regular walking buddy, I’d love to help. Let’s see if we’re a good fit:

July is Lost Pet Prevention Month.

Every year, thousands of pets go missing—and not all of them make it back home. While we can’t predict every situation, there are simple steps we can take to help keep our furry family safe and increase the chances of a happy reunion if they do get lost.

✅ ID Matters
Make sure your pet is always wearing up-to-date identification. A well-fitting collar with current ID tags (like a county license, rabies tag, and name tag) is key. Microchips are another great option—but don’t forget to check that your contact info is current in the chip’s registry.

📸 Snap Smart
Keep several recent photos of your pet (and you with them). This can help prove ownership and highlight any unique markings that make them easy to identify.

🔒 Secure the Yard
If your dog has access to a fenced yard, take a few moments to check for:
• Loose boards or weak spots in the fence
• Holes that could be dug under
• Toxic plants (like mushrooms) that should be removed

And always supervise outdoor time—especially during fireworks season.

🚨 It Only Takes a Second
A loud noise, a car accident, or even a gate that didn’t latch all the way… that’s all it takes for a pet to slip away. If it happens, take a deep breath. Then take action:
Let neighbors, local vets, animal shelters, and authorities know right away. The more eyes, the better.

💡 From my years volunteering/working in local shelters, I can tell you we always saw an increase in lost pets (dogs in particular) around the 4th of July. So during times of higher risk, keep your pets safely indoors or use a leash—even for quick potty breaks.

A little planning goes a long way in keeping your pets safe and by your side. ❤️🐾

I may not be the right fit for every pet parent—and that’s okay! But if you’re searching for a pet sitter or dog walker, I encourage you to take a look at what my friends at Pet Sitters International (PSI) recommend when choosing the right person to care for your pets.

If you live in the Willoughby area and are looking for someone who’s insured and bonded, trained in pet care, committed to continuing education, and has obtained additional certifications, I’d love to chat.

Proudly serving Eastlake, Wickliffe, Willowick, Willoughby Hills, and Willoughby, OH.

Are you looking for a pet sitter or dog walker?

📃PSI offers these tips to help make sure you are choosing a PROFESSIONAL pet-care provider that is a great fit for you and your pets:

1️⃣ Be specific about your needs. 👉Professional pet sitters and dog walkers typically offer a variety of service options, so specify your needs up front, whether those include daily dog walks, visits to administer medication, enrichment activities for your cat, potty breaks for a new puppy, or occasional visits due to a hybrid-work schedule.

2️⃣ Prioritize quality. 👉Pet parents should not let click-and-select convenience of online sites overshadow the importance of doing their due diligence when selecting a pet sitter. Any pet lover can post their services online for a cheap price, but professional pet-care providers will have the training, credentials and insurance coverage needed to provide excellent pet care and protect clients and their homes.

3️⃣ Meet the sitter in person. 👉PSI always recommends pet parents schedule an initial consultation or “meet and greet” at their home—with pets present—before booking pet-care services. This allows the pet parent to meet the pet sitter, review their policies and credentials, and make sure they are the best fit for their family.

4️⃣ Ask the right questions. 👉Pet parents can download a free pet-sitter interview checklist from PSI at www.petsit.com/locate. This checklist includes seven important questions you should ask any pet sitter or dog walker you are considering hiring.

Leaving your cat behind while you’re on vacation can feel really stressful. Will they eat? Will they get their meds (if they take any)? Will they be okay without you?

These are the worries I hear from pet parents all the time—and it’s exactly why I do what I do. With me, you’ll get more than just a cat sitter. You’ll get peace of mind, daily updates, and someone who treats your cat like their own.

My clients tell me all the time how much lighter they feel knowing their cat is in caring, capable hands—and you deserve to feel that too.
