About Bassets
The Basset Hound is known for its long ears, droopy eyes, short legs and friendly disposition. They truly melt your heart with their sad solemn expression. Their loyal devoted demeanor makes this breed a family favorite. The character is written all over them! Originally from France, the Basset was bred for the hunt. They are the top in tracking due to their low to the ground nose and long ears which aids in picking up the scent. The word Basset is derived from "bas", meaning low. Even though they were bred for their hunting instincts, they are equally at home as a beloved companion. Not a frisky, hyper breed, but a calm sometimes lazy couch potato who just wants to please! You the buyer will be given all health records and proper registration forms for your puppy. Your puppy has been provided with the best care possible. We give a 2-year guarantee against 4 hereditary conditions i.e., glaucoma, Von Willebrand’s disease, Thrombopathia and Heart disease. If the veterinarian finds that the puppy has a life-threatening condition that makes it a health risk, you have the option of returning the dog immediately AT BUYERS EXPENSE, and there must be a written statement and the test results documentation from your veterinarian mailed to us as proof of the condition and we will replace the puppy with another one that is available. If no puppies are available in the current litter, you will be put on the list for the next planned litter and that pup will be shipped to you free of shipping costs. All puppies purchased through our website are covered with at least a 30-day health guarantee by the Dog Breeder. If you have questions about what is covered, please view the Law associated with your state.
Within ten days of purchasing your new puppy, you must take him/her to a licensed veterinarian for an examination. If the veterinarian determines, within ten days of purchase, that your dog is clinically ill or has died from an injury sustained or illness likely to have been contracted on or before the date of sale and delivery, you have the following options:
Retain the dog and receive reimbursement for reasonable veterinary fees, not exceeding the purchase price.
Return the dog for a complete refund.
Return the dog for a replacement dog of equal value.
These options do not apply where a seller, who has provided a health certificate issued by a veterinarian, discloses in writing at the time of sale the health problem for which the buyer later seeks to return the dog.
If within 30 days of purchase, a licensed veterinarian determines that your dog has a congenital or hereditary defect which adversely affects the animal’s health or that your dog died from a congenital or hereditary defect, you have the same option as outlined above.
You must notify the seller of the examining veterinarian’s name, address & phone number within two days of the vet’s certification of your dog’s illness. Failure to notify the seller within two business days will result in forfeiture of rights. Each state has different laws related to the sale of a puppy; please educate yourself on the laws in the state which you purchase your puppy.
Each state in the U.S. has different guidelines in regards to guaranteed health for sold puppies. For states that do not have a mandatory health guarantee in place, any breeder advertising through our site is expected to cover the health of their puppies for at least 30 days. In the event that a state guideline is in place offering a guarantee longer than 30 days, that law holds precedence.
*Some breeders offer extended guarantees on their puppies. It is not legal for a breeder to offer a health guarantee that is not at least equal to state law. For a more detailed description of extended genetic health guarantees, read below.
Extended Genetic Health Guarantees (when offered)
An additional guarantee specifically covering any disease or illness that is proven to be of a genetic origin through proper veterinary examination and testing.
These guarantees do not cover normal veterinary costs incurred while providing general care for the puppy.
Proper documentation must be provided to the breeder before any compensation being paid.
This guarantee does not cover any costs incurred related to injuries caused by owner negligence or accidental injury.

Our youngest three kids are 5, 7 & 13, and love to play with the adult dogs and their puppies, so they are all very used to children. Our Story
Basset Love. It's a real thing. It all started for us in 2008 when we purchased our first basset, Maxie. With her long , long ears and droopy eyes we fell in love immediately. Bubba followed shortly, and Porch Sittin' Hounds was born!
Ellie , Max and Aggie soon followed... Basset Hounds are like potato chips, you can't have just one! We live on an 80 acre farm in southwest Missouri where our puppies get to experience farm life and the outdoors. They share their space with children, cows, horses, and chickens. They are very well rounded European American Basset Hound puppies!
All of our puppies and our Basset Hounds are raised completely inside our home along side our family so they are all well rounded to noise, people, and everyday life by the time they go to their forever families. We keep all of our basset hounds for their entire lives, we do not re-home our hounds when they are retired from our breeding program. They are part of our family forever and always. We do not allow any visitors to our home while we have or are expecting puppies. This is for the protection, health, and well being of all of our puppies. Most people are unaware how highly contagious and dangerous a potential exposure from a disease such as Parvo could be to a breeding program. Parvo can live in contaminated soil for years and can also live on any contaminated items or surface until it's properly cleaned and disinfectant. So we take no possible chances of having an accidental exposure to our breeding program by a unknowing potential family wanting to visit. We will gladly share pictures and videos with any potential family to see our complete breeding program and puppies and Parents. We also welcome any of our puppies families to come to our vets office for the puppies 6 week vaccinations /check up appointment so you can meet your puppy as well as us in a safe controlled environment. But we always keep our puppies until they are 9 to 10 weeks old.
Coming from farming families, we are two passionate young farmers who own our dairy farm. We have a herd of Jersey cows of approximately 150 head of which 70 are lactating. We are now certified organic for the milk from our cows and for all our field crops. We work hard to preserve the environment and develop healthy and sustainable agriculture. Our choices are constantly linked to a return to the basics of what nature offers us. The health and well-being of our animals are our priorities.
On the family side, we are parents of four beautiful boys: Clément, Éloi, David and Bastien. They are our pride and will perhaps take over our dairy business for a 6th generation of Lemieux on the farm. Work-family balance being at the heart of our lives, children follow us and learn from our passions. Our four children are daily involved as much in the work of the farm as in the tasks in the kennel; they love getting their hands dirty and are aware that with everyone's efforts, we will be able to build great things!

A friend who breeds Chihuahuas convinced us to get a registered dog to ensure the quality of our Basset Hound to start our breeding. After much research, we found Venus! She arrived from Texas in October 2005.

Basset hound puppies are perfect for families as they are friendly, sweet, and give such unconditional love. Basset hounds are better with canine buddy, so we are asking that the new home to have a canine already, or purchase 2. But we know sometimes a person just wants a companion that is home all the time and that is fine. Basset hounds do not like to be by themselves.
At first a basset hound puppy is very clumsy due to their long droopy ears. When you walk them they will step on them and fall. You also need to be careful if your home has steps or stairs. Puppy proofing your home is a great idea before they enter into your family.
We have found bassets are very mouthy dogs, as they will even eat your laundry.
Keep in mind that socks, small items, and trash are very dangerous!
Keep electrical cords out of reach!
Due to their short legs, they are not good swimmers.
Please keep in mind that they cannot eat chocolate, grapes, raisins, large doses of garlic or onions, and peanut butter with xylitol.
Puppies eat alot and should be fed 3 times a day, but as they grow you need to monitor their eating habits so they do not get obese and have that strain on their long back.
Bred to follow prey, your basset will follow an interesting scent, and once their nose is down, they are not very aware of their surroundings. We recommend you exercise your basset on a leash with a harness not a collar so he/she won’t get cherry eye(s).
It is best to provide a fenced yard for the safety of your basset.
As far as grooming, they will need regular baths, ear care, and nail maintenance.
They can be a bit lazy and stubborn as they age, but they are trainable.
I believe their personality comes from their upbringing, love & the environment around them.
AKC registration paperwork, deworming & vaccinations paperwork will be given at time of pickup.

We've witnessed in our own home that our males are every bit as calm (unless of course there are rabbits to be chased), playful yet forgiving with our human kids as the females, and will even try to help with their own litters! ( When the Mama allows of course;)
So please, feel free to reserve the pup that 'calls you', and not just base the choice solely on gender, you won't regret it. Happy puppy shopping!

Our beautiful family pet Delilah has had her first and last litter, she had 4 girls and 4 boys and they are extremely strong and healthy and will be true to type. Their gorgeous tri colour coats are already shiny and thick their legs short chunky and wrinkly and floppy ears clean their mother is doing an amazing job. Mums parents were AKC however she is not as she was an accidental litter and could not be registered, she was fully health checked by the vets, Delilah is a beautiful dog she has a temperament to die for she is so calm and loving to us all. She does not struggle with her weight she is a very active dog. Dad is fully health checked and AKC registered and he was stunning with all his wrinkles in the right places and was a perfect example of a Bassett hound. These puppies are well loved and will be well socialised brought up in our family home where mum lives they are raised around 4 children aged from 13 to 2 years and also other dogs and cats they will be used to all household noise and visitors. Puppies will leave fully vet checked, microchipped flea and wormed and with their first vaccination they will have a puppy pack and a blanket with mum and litter mates scent on DEPOSIT SECURES YOUR CHOICE all sold
