Sorry to keep you all in suspense for an extra day... We extended our holiday an extra night and I was too busy reading my book in front of a fire to do a post 😁

My exciting announcement is....🎉🎉🎉🎉

Next year I will be releasing a new book 📖

Before you get too excited, its NOT another track book! (Although I already have notes for that so there will be at some point!)

It's a rhyming children's book about my wonderful Buckthorn the rescue pony, the true story of how he came into my life and the beginning of our journey together.

Some of you who have followed me for years will know him well, but for any new followers check out my old page Buckthorn The Rescue Pony. I've not updated it for a while but I may start updating it again when the book is released (if I have time to do that as well as this!)

This one I actually wrote before the track book, but it's taken me a good few years to try and finish the illustrations (and I still have a good few more to do) as they're the sort of thing you have to be in the right mood to do or they'll be rubbish!

All of the illustrations are based off of photographs I have taken of Buck, to capture his likeness and keep the story true, using photographs to illustrate real moments in our story. Here's a sneak peak of one of the drawings, based off of his actual photograph that was on his adoption advert.

It'll hopefully be enjoyed by adults too, my mum can't read it without getting emotional 😅

Buckthorn is my heart horse, the reason for AVL and the horsewoman I am today. I owe him so much and I hope to use some of the proceedings to donate to the equine section of the RSPCA, who saved his life.

Watch this space, and I can't wait to share it with you all 🧡

FAQ'S for the Jelka Group HIT Top Clean Mats!

Q. Can you lay them straight on mud?

A. Yes! It's actually better if the ground is a bit squishy as you can jump on them and get them to grip into the mud. Then when it dries they won't budge!

Q. Do I need to prepare the ground?

A. From their website:
" Remove a layer of the existing surface leaving a 1 to 2% slope for surface drainage.

Break up approx 2cm deep of the levelled ground using a strong rake.

Lay the mats with a 1-2cm gap in a masonry configuration (the mats should easily imprint into the loose surface). Do Not install over deep ruts."

We however have just put them straight down and squished them flat! I also laid some in the summer when it was dry, and the ones I laid when it was a bit wetter have sat much flatter and better.

Q. Do you need to fill them with sand?

A. No, but it's recommended. It gives them a clean smooth finish that you can sweep and poo pick easily. We have some without sand around our feeders but these ones for the walkway we have filled with sand as I know they'll poo on them!

Q. Do they have holes in for drianage?

A. No, the grid system drains the water away. I much prefer this style as it has a smooth surface finish and the mud and grass does not come up through them.

Q. Why didn't you just surface that area of the track?

A. Well this area is the wettest it's ever been in 7 years and I wanted a quick fix. I figured, why spend all that money and effort on surfacing the whole area when the rest of the year it's dry and fantastic? I can also lift and re-use these if I ever decide to surface it and I'll use the mats elsewhere.

Q. Are the durable?

A. VERY! They are rigid and firm but with just enough give that you can squish them down flat.

Q. Do they connect together?

A. Nope. They butt up next to each other and once laid properly they don't move so no need to do so.

Q. Are you sponsored by them?

A. Nope! We've just tried other mud mats and these are our favourites 👌I like sharing my favourite products that I've tried and tested for other people to benefit from.

Q. Are they slippy?

A. Not at all. Super grippy and out horses trot and canter on them!

If you have any more questions let me know and I'll add them and their answers in!

Step by step installation pics coming soon!

Our Story

Abbotts View Livery is a combined track and equi-central system hybrid that allows your horse to live out in a herd 24/7 all year round, with free choice and careful management of grass intake. We offer part, full and retirement livery packages.

The 'traditional' way of keeping horses (shod, stabled and turned out onto lush grass) that has been performed for many years needs addressing. For some horses, this system ‘works’, but for most, this has big and negative impacts on their health and well-being (think obesity, boredom, weaving, wind sucking, pacing, door kicking, and other stress related behaviours). We need a way of keeping horses that provides more turn-out, decreased behavioural problems, more movement and better management of the high sugar and starch grasses of England that are detrimental to the health of the majority of todays horses (think EMS, Laminitis, obesity, cushings). Being able to keep horses living out 24/7, year round, whilst still managing grass intake and your horses mental and physical well-being is a huge task, wether your horse is retired or in full ridden work. A track system is a new and exciting way of keeping horses that provides all of these things, and I believe, is the key to having mentally and physically healthier horses.

So after a lots of research, budgeting, planning and dreaming my vision of running a yard came to fruition! I feel so excited to be able to create a livery environment that I dreamed about for me and my horses, and I'd love to share it with you and your equine partner. My mission is to create a livery yard for like-minded people where their horses are free to express their natural behaviours and is a place of retreat, where people challenge themselves to build on their relationships with their horses and offer encouragement, guidance and support to one another
