Department of Agriculture Extends Halt Live Poultry Imports
due to Avian Influenza Outbreak

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 8, 2022, Mangilao, GU --- The Department of Agriculture (DOAG) announced on a March 1, 2022 press release that it would temporarily halt live poultry imports from the state of Colorado, eastward due to a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in the United States. On March 6, 2022 the Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a commercial flock in South Dakota.

Effective immediately, DOAG will now extend the ban on live poultry imports to all 48 contiguous United States. As with the previous press release, this ban applies to live poultry import only and does not affect poultry commodities such as meat and eggs.

Furthermore, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the recent detections of HPAI continue to present no immediate public health concern. The Guam Department of Agriculture will continue to monitor this outbreak and will update the public as necessary.
