▶️Check Pasture Conditions: As grass growth slows, monitor your pasture for overgrazing and consider supplementing with hay to maintain proper nutrition.⁣
⁣
▶️Adjust Feeding Plans: With cooler weather, horses may need additional calories to maintain body weight. Work with your veterinarian to evaluate and adjust their diet accordingly.⁣
⁣
▶️Monitor Coat Changes: Fall is the time for your horse's coat to thicken. Regular grooming will help keep their coat healthy and support natural shedding.⁣
⁣
▶️Vaccination Updates: Ensure your horse is up-to-date on fall vaccinations, especially against equine influenza and rhinopneumonitis. As cooler weather means more time in stables with closed doors and less ventilation, the recirculating air and co-mingling of horses increase the risk of respiratory diseases.

For horses traveling to warmer climates for the winter competition season, fall vaccinations should include an EWT/WN booster due to continued exposure to mosquitoes that transmit these viruses.

Last week, I had the honor of presenting on behalf of ConturaVet. By reviewing selected cases of equine synovitis on the webinar, I established my criteria for selecting a 2.5% polyacrylamide gel as an effective treatment modality in patients.

🔙 This winter I was able to scrub in on a Tenex Procedure at Palm Beach Equine led by Dr. Weston Davis in collaboration with Dr. David Levine from New Bolton. This procedure addresses chronic tendon and ligament injuries in horses, and utilizes a Tenex Health TX System, which employs ultrasonic energy to break down and remove damaged tissue while preserving the healthy surrounding tissue. ⁣
⁣
This procedure is beneficial for horses with chronic tendinopathy or ligament injuries that have not responded to other treatment such as rest, physical therapy, or anti-inflammatory medications.
