⁣: Rehabilitating an injured horse requires a comprehensive approach to ensure a full and successful recovery. Here are just a few options we might recommend after a close evaluation of the equine! ⁣

🔹Controlled Exercise Programs⁣

🔹 Hydrotherapy⁣

🔹 Physiotherapy⁣

🔹 Laser Therapy⁣

🔹Acupuncture and Chiropractic Care⁣

🔹 Nutrition and Supplements⁣

🔹 Therapeutic Ultrasound⁣

🔹 Rest and Proper Stall Management⁣

Continuous monitoring by a veterinarian ensures that the rehabilitation process is on track. Adjustments to the rehabilitation plan can be made based on the horse’s progress and specific needs!

Many of my clients experience the benefits of alpha-2-macroblobulin, the potent orthobiologic anti-inflammatory molecule that can improve equine lameness, joint inflammation, soft tissue injury, and airway inflammation. The AlphaActive process behind Astaria Global’s Alpha2EQ system allows veterinarians to isolate this powerhouse molecule from the horse’s own blood 🩸 ⁣

Learn more about it below 👇 , or ask me about it during our next appointment!⁣

Is your equine athlete having performance issues? Back pain could be the culprit! Like human athletes, horses can suffer back pain, affecting their mobility and performance. Here’s what to look out for:⁣

🔹 Behavioral Changes: Irritability, resistance to work, or unusual aggression.⁣

🔹 Physical Signs: Muscle spasms, uneven gait, or a reluctance to move.⁣

🔹 Performance Issues: Difficulty in executing movements, loss of stamina, or inconsistent performance.⁣

Your horse’s comfort is paramount! Always consult with a veterinarian if you suspect back pain.

Take care of them now so they can live long, happy lives 💙 We love to see our performance horse patients retire and continue to thrive, like Victorious, a 2002 NAWPN-Harness gelding, who had a successful FEI career with Lauren Sprieser, including winning the 2010 BLM Prix St. George Senior B Finals, 4th at the 2012 Developing Horse Grand Prix, and scores to 68% at Senior Grand Prix. Midge became a schoolmaster for a time and is now outstanding in his field!⁣

: As part of a thorough evaluation of the horse’s musculoskeletal health and performance abilities, veterinarians frequently employ flexion tests under saddle. These assessments entail the bending of the leg in a particular way to stress joints and soft tissues to gauge flexibility, soundness, and the presence of any discomfort or lameness during movement 💪🏻⁣

The additional ability to evaluate the response on a bending line and receive rider feedback adds value to the clinical assessment!

If you're a client, you may see us pull this new tool out from time-to-time. The Wellness Ready™ Insulin Test is a stall-side blood test that allows you to instantly determine a horse’s risk for endocrine related laminitis 🩸

The foundation of a preventive performance examination is a complete physical examination. The veterinarian carefully palpates the legs, neck and topline, feeling for areas of pain or tension in the musculature, or heat and swelling in a tendon 🦵

: Shockwave therapy is often part of a treatment plan directed at soft tissue injuries, which can also include anti-inflammatories, controlled exercise, topical therapies, such as icing and liniments. It is compatible with regenerative therapies and has been shown to increase the activity of platelet-rich plasma. Shockwave therapy is generally well tolerated by equine patients, has minimal side effects and can be performed in a barn environment. Using a shockwave machine on a horse is considered by most states to be the practice of veterinary medicine, which means it is done by or on the order of a veterinarian. A typical protocol for a soft tissue injury involves one to three treatments at two to four week intervals.

“A crisis is brewing for your horse. This growing threat has been largely silent but is now creating alarm in many parts of the United States. All indicators show the situation worsening, with the potential to impact all horses. What is this existential threat? The rapidly diminishing supply of equine veterinarians.” ⁣

- 𝘌𝘮𝘮𝘢 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥, 𝘋𝘝𝘔, 𝘔𝘝𝘚𝘤, 𝘋𝘪𝘱𝘭. 𝘈𝘊𝘝𝘚

Did you know that 60 equine vets are retiring each year yet only 20 graduating vets are going into equine practice annually? And of those that enter equine practice, 50% have left the industry within 5 years?

Those numbers are alarming, and have many horse owners wondering what they can do to help improve the situation. This article does a great job of putting it all into perspective, and gives a few important recommendations for horse owners, as well! 👇

Hindgut ulcers are not the same as stomach ulcers. The term “hindgut” refers to the segment of a horse’s intestines that follows the small intestine. Hindgut ulcers are typically located in the right dorsal colon, as opposed to ulcerations in the stomach (also called gastric ulcers).
