Mellon had been stuck on the roof for about two days. She looked absolutely miserable when I spotted her from the ground. Not exactly sure how she got herself up there but she wasn’t coming down on her own. She was pretty scared and ran away from me a couple times. Mellon was interested in the Churu I put down for her and had a quick snack as I was trying to make friends with her. She eventually let me get close enough to nab her. She is now home with her loving family.
I have to say, my messages were blowing up with seeming like the entire Asheville Cat Weirdo organization letting me know about this poor cat ;-) Such a great community looking out for the welfare of cats everywhere.

Gidget door-dashed and ultimately ended up in a big oak tree. I roped up to her and she was all about getting some help. I did a poor job with my throw line and ended up putting it right where she had been hanging out. Luckily she was pretty chill about and and just moved to a different notch of the tree. She is down now and much happier!

Anyone missing a really sweet grey (maybe diluted calico) kitten around the Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler? She (I think it might be a she) had been stuck in a tree since yesterday. She was very vocal on wanting some help. She was a little scared of me (hence the hiss) but once I got her in the carrier, she turned out to be a really friendly kitty. She is now at the Asheville Humane Society.
The address for the church is 525 Old US 19-23, Candler, NC.
I’ll post more pictures in a separate post.
Maxie had been stuck in the tree since Friday. He was scared of me and climbed all the way to the very top. I had to use the catch pole to nab him and it wasn’t a great grab but it got him in the net. Unfortunately, there was no way to lower Maxie down so I had to carry him down in the net. Neither of us were really happy about that. After many complications, Maxie is home and dry, much happier than when I saw him last.
This was one of those rescues that was a pain in the butt. First, there was a steady rain. Second, the cat climbed away from me (I was warned). Third, lots of branches to weave around. Fourth, my saw came unclipped and fell. Fifth, my kitty treats fell out of my pocket. Six and final, had to climb all the way to the top.
Successful but not fun!
I rescued Wren this morning. She (I think it was a girl kitty) had been up in the tree for about a day or so. She is still a kitten and definitely wanted some help after a cold night in the tree. Her owner was very concerned about her and actually spent the night in her car to keep an eye on Wren. Easy rescue and Wren is now happy and warm back home.
I rescued a kitty that had been stuck in a tree for a number of days. A concerned neighbor got in touch with me and coordinated with the property owner to let me climb the tree to get the kitty down. The kitty wanted help and was pretty cooperative. Between the high winds and narrow tree, I didn’t want to climb any higher so settled for an “ok” grab which went fine. We let the kitty loose when we got to the ground and it seemed pretty happy to be on the ground. Never met the actual owner of the kitty but at least it is out of the tree.
Rescued Marley today. He had been in the tree since yesterday and there was concern about a hawk or owl taking keen interest in the little kitty. Marley was a little nervous but was really interested in getting some help. I normally would have climbed a bit higher but the branch I was on was pretty narrow and I didn’t want to push my luck. Marley is now home with his brothers and sisters, much happier!
Rescued Zinga this afternoon. She had been in the tree for less than a day but with rain coming in and her stubbornness about getting herself out of similar situations; her owner and I decided to give her some help today. She was very vocal about wanting some assistance and was pretty cooperative. At first, she started crawling away from me but then decided anyone who brought a bag of treats with them couldn’t be all that bad. She wasn’t thrilled with the net and was going to try and make a break for it but I was able to get her secured. She is now down in the ground with all her animal friends (who were quite concerned) and her loving owner.

I rescued Pam this afternoon. She had been in the tree for the past couple days. Pam is a beautiful cat (really cool markings on her nose) and didn’t make a peep the whole time. Great day for the rescue and Pam was really cooperative. She is back home with her loving family now.
Simba had only spent one night in the tree but it is a cold and rainy day. He was looking pretty wet and miserable but he wasn’t too keen on me. He climbed to the top of the pine tree before he let me get close to him. Once I got up there, Simba let me give him a few pets. Tough part was manipulating the net with numb hands. It all worked out and Simba is now home, dry, and a whole lot happier!
I rescued this unknown black and white kitty in Fletcher today. It was very vocal about wanting down. It started to try and climb down to me and I was a little worried it might fall. When I finally got up to it, it had second thoughts and hissed at me. I was a little concerned it was going to run up the tree so I did a quick grab before I was fully set up. Once in the net, the kitty didn’t make a peep. The folks who contacted me took it to the Hendersonville Humane Society to check if it had a chip. If you are looking for a sweet black and white cat, it is at the Hendersonville Humane Society.
