Wrote a long post on dog nutrition. Facebook deleted it. Short: don’t feed kibble to your frenchie, my dogs don’t have allergies and eat everything and anything, they aren’t picky eaters and I believe that dogs deserve variation in their food bowl. That’s all thanks bye 👋

Day one of the heat cycle. ☝🏻 let’s see where this journey goes this summer.

Let’s throw a question in here: Would you be willing to pay a few € more for a puppy if they are not only genetically tested but also get an early spine x-ray at age 8-9 weeks? Those kind of early x-rays only give an estimate but definitely would show severe birth defects. I would be wanting to do these if puppy buyers would find them useful as well.

Da es mir aus gegebenen Anlass im Moment öfters unter die Nase kommt, sei hier einmal gesagt, die Ahnentafel gehört zu euren Hund!
Egal was der Züchter erzählt warum ihr die Ahnentafel nicht ausgehändigt bekommt, es ist alles Schwachsinn und zeugt von keiner seriösen Art und Weise!

Die Ahnentafel ist im entfernten Sinne vergleichbar mit unserem Personalausweis. Es gibt keine Gründe, warum der Züchter diese einbehalten sollte. Preissenkungen wenn ihr sie da lässt oder andersherum Preiserhöhung wenn ihr diese haben wollt, sind alle nicht gerechtfertigt und eher eine "Red Flag"🚩dort nicht zukaufen.

⚠️Achtung!⚠️ In den meisten Fällen bekommt ihr die Ahnentafel nicht am Abholungstag mit dem Welpen mit. Das liegt daran, daß die Wurfabnahme mit ca. 8 Wochen erfolgt und dann die Ahnentafeln erst genehmigt und gedruckt werden müssen!
Je nach Zuchtverein kann das schon einmal 4 Monate dauern!
Ihr solltet euch in diesem Fall schriftlich, zB im Kaufvertrag des Hundes, euch angeben lassen das die Ahnentafel vom Züchter nachgereicht wird! Ganz wichtig❗️Der Züchter kann euch meistens auch einen groben Überblick geben, wann ungefähr in seinem Verein die Ahnentafeln fertig sind.

Also lasst euch nicht über den Tisch ziehen😉
Ein Züchter der die Ahnentafel nicht herausgeben möchte, warum auch immer, ist nicht seriös! Finger weg⛔️

”Clinical examination: normal body condition, slim. Good musculature.

Mucosal membranes normal, teeth normal, no missing teeth. No persistent deciduous teeth.

Heart normal in auscultation, lung sounds normal. Upper airway sounds perfectly normal, totally silent breathing. Lymph nodes normal, abdomen normal, no hernias.

Cranio facial ratio 0,38, muzzle 3,7cm, skull 9,7cm.

Knees normal, no patella luxation.
Soft palate: normal, not reaching over the epiglottis, no abnormal upper airway sounds, breathing totally silent.
X rays of spine, thorax, knees, hips, elbows and shoulders. No signs of OCD present in shoulders or knees, hips mildly dysplastic (C/C on finnish kennelklub scale), elbows clear 0/0. Spine otherwise normal, but clear malformation in the 7th thoracic vertebra, otherwise spine ok.

Overall very healthy and happy dog!”

After 15 weeks the last babies went into their forever homes in Italy 🇮🇹 and Sweden 🇸🇪
We had a wonderful puppy meeting together and are now ready for new adventures! 🙌

One step closer to the healthy bulldog. We had a complication free @ home birth without assistance on the 7th/8th of May. The puppies have been growing since and get stronger every day. Our male already starts walking and lifts up his whole body weight. 3/4 have opened their eyes and everything is perfectly fine. Next week will be their first deworming. Can't wait to get to know their new future owners. Two fawn girls still look for the perfect match. 🏡

Good things need time. As we already elaborated in our Instagram story, it looks like Daisy is going into her second heat. We however decided against winter puppies for several reasons:
- minimum age : she has just reached the minimum age required by law. However dogs grow and mature with each heat cycle
- autumn and winter is cold in Finland
▶️ Less movement during pregnancy can lead to more complications
▶️ Puppies can't be socialized as well during our cold winter
▶️ Which could cause problems for the puppy owners
▶️ Such as problems with potty training but also behavioural issues
▶️ In an emergency there is a risk of not getting to the vet in time due to high snowfall / car not starting at -30 degrees Celsius
- we want to prioritize our dog's health and wellbeing as well as the physical and psychological development of the puppies.
Which means : we expect a pregnancy around April/May 2023.

Cutting/shaving of dogs' vibrissae (whiskers) now prohibited in Austria - effective from September 2022. Dogs with shaves whiskers are not allowed to attend dog shows anymore.
Not relevant for the French Bulldog. Still interesting in which direction animal welfare law is developing in other countries.

Änderung des Tierschutzgesetzes - Verbot des Scherens der Vibrissen

Der Nationalrat hat in seiner Sitzung vom 7. Juli 2022 eine Ergänzung des Tierschutzgesetzes beschlossen. Unter anderem wurde in § 7 Liste der verbotenen Eingriffe das Verbot des Scherens der Vibrissen hinzugefügt. Damit ist zukünftig auch das Ausstellen von Hunden mit geschorenen Vibrissen verboten. Dieses Verbot tritt mit 1. September 2022 in Kraft und betrifft ab diesem Zeitpunkt alle Hundeshows in Österreich.

Fine. But: please always have water with you in the summer. Don't go outside if your dog struggles with the heat. If possible walk in the shade. Don't exercise your dog in hot weather.

Bear-test Daisy

Dog's reaction to the scent trail: strong, follows trail

Reaction to predator: goes between owner and animal

Barking work: barks immediately, makes strong eye contact with the predator

Operability of the dog when the predator moves: large (strong eye contact)

Distance: suitable safety distance

"Will to fight": large

Dodging and agility: agile (middle)

Working time: long

Recovery: recovers nearly immediately

We are very proud of our girl as we worked hard with her. She has been a bit shy and fearful in her puppy stage, and strangers were a reason to shake and run away as well as other dogs. After a huge amount of work we now finally took the test and as you can see she couldn't be more brave. She even chased the bear behind the fence. We got a lot of praise for her structure but even more for working with her personality and how she turns out. She is a real diamond that just needed some grinding. Asko suggested we start bear hunting with her as she clearly enjoys it. Pictures during and after the test. Now we rest. Next coming up is her health check in a few weeks.
Thanks go to French Bulldogs from Honey Marsh for breeding dogs that are agile, good to work with and have a suitable temperament.

2023 the animal welfare law in Finland will change.
Deseases and illnesses in dogs will be split into four categories. Dogs with mild defects or diseases can be used for breeding if the other party of the mating is healthy. During the statutory five-year transition period, a moderate defect or illness of a breeding dog will also be allowed in some cases if the other party to the combination is healthy.

A animal that is not able to reproduce naturally due to an inherited structural or other defect or disease, or whose welfare is likely to cause significant harm to reproduction, may not be used for breeding. Further more the snout has to be 1/3 of the skull.
The law also affects registered dogs, mixed breed dogs and unregistered dogs.
