Well compared to the greenhouse, the growth is rather slower but progressing. Nevertheless is an open planting but will still not going to use any chemical pesticide.
25/11/2021
Well well.... Is quite sweet considering is organic. Not bad, will try planting more. Would you like organic melon?
25/11/2021

Today managed to put up 90% of the trellis and stopped due as we ran out of rafia strings. The trees seems to be looking good!
13/11/2021
Done!!!! all 600+ seedlings has been transferred. Kudos to Maverick Schools and our relatives came to speed up the process. We finish everything in less than 2 hours!

GLAMOUR Rock melon typically is priced around RM9 to RM10/kg. Today I bought one from a fruit specialist in a supermarket at RM 17. Price is reasonable but is not pesticide free, let's name it Melon A.
Nevertheless, I wanted to compare it with the one I grown. At least to see where I stand in the real market from consumer point of view.
The verdict, Melon A is tasteless and not fully grown to maturity. The look is not bad as it seems well netted. As a consumer we don't mind paying high price but at least the fruit is edible.
Is really sad that growers are doing this causing consumers loosing faith in the fruit. And consumer blacklisting those fruit shops.
07/11/2021
Almost there now, it was a back breaking and head burning journey as we are chasing a deadline. We are on track and just a little bit more adjustment. Next is trellis installation and fertilizer adjustment. Thank Maverick Schools

Feedbacks from customers are very important. Is shows what I have been doing and persisted is correct. Emphasizing the use of organic method is the way forward and that is what i will do.

Yes! Today consider the harvest stage but by stages as the melons seems to be inconsistent. Likely due to the germination stage that some seedling was sow earlier than others.
Nevertheless, will continue to care for those which are not ready.

DAP 63
Still got another week to go before we can harvest and I starting to get few of the melons weight around 1.5kg above while some still trying. Hope that by DAP 70 can reach 1.5kg.
Managed to get only one above 1.8kg.
16/10/2021
First time eating my own grown melon....is not sweet as it was harvested less than 50 days due to the tree was infested by root burrowing pest.
Not as sweet as expected but there is a sense of achievement in seeing this result, that is more sweeter and melts in you heart.

DAP 49 (Post 1)
Attacked by root burrowing maggots. It is one of the worst pest rock melons growers hate. I managed to salvage 2 trees previously but it seems they finally made it. 1 tree got caught by their onslaught and can only save the melon which is still far from ready.
Lesson learnt and this is not the end. Will able to improve.

DAP 43,
Another 3 more weeks to go before we can harvest and I alreadyto start labeling the melons. These melons are literally already owned and I will make sure it will be taken care until harvest.
Thank you for your support.

Daily check on our Melon. Steady and easy.
Not all the trees are having the same growth, so watering would need to adjust accordingly to their stage.
Trees having 2 fruit is slower in terms of size. But slowly they will grow and take longer time. Maybe we might able to harvest it later than the rest.

The netting is more obvious now. Each melon will be hand rub to encourage the formation of netting. Let see in another few more days.

The fruits starting to show netting and most of the fruits are being wrap to avoid fruit flies. Pruned away the fruits which are not growing as nutrients are only going to the larger fruit.

Once the trees reaches 30 days, is time we start choosing the best fruit for each tree. We can keep 1 or 2 fruits per tree so that we can have bigger fruit.
This time I planned to have 3 just for this particular tree. The rest is 1 or 2.
21/09/2021
DAP 29 (Post 2)
These few days will be busy pruning and setting the fruits. I hope 20 of them bear fruits which targeted at least 2 fruits per tree.
Come on you can do it!!
21/09/2021
DAP 29
Well some trees are seeing bigger fruit compared to others as they are sowed earlier. But nevertheless, I understand that now.
18 out 20 trees are now seeing fruit formation while 2 not able to form fruit after pollination. Likely due to incomplete or poor manual pollination. Luckily the bees are now carrying the task for me and I got better rate.

DAP 27 (Post 2)
The bad news is, we have 2 trees attacked by cucumber beetle and the larvae ate the stems. These is No. 1 melon enemy and apparently I did not manage to find them off as I could not do spray control during these period.
Hopefully the trees survives.

DAP 27 (Post 1)
Today we got lots of visitors. The bees finally heard us and they came swarming the flowers. I wished they were here 5 days ago.
Nevertheless, the pollination stage will last till day 30 as ome trees still not pollinated. I wish this fruitful Sunday brings abundance.
In the mean time we got few trees already bearing fruit. In a week or so, we will start to choose and remain the best fruit.

Today I witnessed the success of pollination and form of a fruit. Is just one fruit but the anticipation is overwhelming. Now i am full of hope and believed I am on the right track.
The trees has reached the top now and I am worried the roof I built is too low.

DAP 21 to 24
These few days will be very crucial as the trees are now into pollination stage. I could not see bees flying around and trees are blooming. So, manual pollination is required.
These period the trees are very prone to attract lots of insects so extra precautions are needed. Fret not, let's do it and make it happen.
It has already 1/3 of the journey and shall make it!

Now the flowers are blooming which means is pollination period. But sometimes we may need to do it manually due to the absence of pollinators. I have seen bees, but not alot and can't risk it if they doesn't pollinate flowers.
Ps: spacial thanks to my little helper
