Love spreading the diverse abilities of the OTTB and breaking the stereotypes of thoroughbreds!! “Up the Power” was an 2019 graduate of thoroughbred makeover show!
Don't see the horse sport you love represented in the Thoroughbred Makeover discipline offerings? That didn't matter for 2019 Up the Power and Katie Tarasevich, who are hitting their stride in Limited Distance endurance rides this spring!
Up the Power (Up Periscope - Power Crossing, by Valley Crossing), a 2012 VA-bred who made 14 career starts at Charles Town, and Tarasevich used their Makeover year to hone the basics and finished mid-pack in both Freestyle and Dressage. Since the Makeover, they've been working on their conditioning and trail miles to prepare for the sport of endurance!
At this particular event, Up the Power and Tarasevich completed 25 miles in under five hours, including a 45 minute break and pulse times. They placed mid-pack of 63 riders, and earned great scores from the vets. They also camped out all weekend in order to compete!
Tarasevich notes "When I purchased Up The Power, he was deemed for 'lower level' riding due to an old sesamoid injury but with the proper care and conditioning, these OTTBs can do anything!"
