I could use some prayers and healing energy sent for my Satin Guinea Pig, Gizmo. I’ve had him for a couple of years knowing he had Satin Syndrome, and knowing this time would eventually come. But it seems he’s going into kidney failure we think. He started drastically losing weight despite constantly eating and excessively drinking. I took him to the vet last week and they attempted to run a full blood panel on him, but was only able to get enough blood to check his thyroid and his blood sugar levels, not enough to check kidney functions. Thyroid and blood sugar were all normal and after taking X-rays, and those being clear, we can only assume it’s kidneys. So I was sent home with fluids to give him subcutaneously daily, antibiotics to treat my bacterial infection (his eyes were crusty) and was given a B12 shot at the vet. He’s supposed to get a B12 injection weekly for a few weeks. But despite all of the treatments that he was started on last Thursday, he’s progressively gotten worse. He had still been wheeking at me everytime he hear me in the house, and standing on his cage walls to get my attention, despite everything. But, this morning was the first morning he didn’t greet me when I got up, nor did he get up to eat his fresh hay delivery. He just looked at me then laid down. So I picked him up to give him some of my body warmth, and he seemed to perk up. But when I put him back in the cage, he was wobbly as he walked, but at least started eating his hay.

After his behavior this morning, I fear I won’t have him much longer. There’s only so much that can be done for kidney failure, but it only prolongs the decline, you can’t reverse it. So, I’ll be giving him extra love and attention until it’s time to say goodbye.
