Food scraps collected during the event are being fed to the worms, and a final weight out will be taken to see how much fertile earth is generated. 💚🪱🪱🪱🪱💚 (Extra special thanks to our friend 🌿🌿 for making it all possible).

Happy birthday mom! You would have been 77 today.

My mom didn’t want me to write an eulogy for her. She didn’t like the one I wrote for my dad. So I consider this more of a poem. Rest In Peace mom. Love you. And happy birthday!

Ode to my mom

A bright, beautiful flame.
Your breathe extinguished without warning.
You lived as you wanted, and you died the same way.
You were the funniest person I knew. And the best story teller.
Often misunderstood. All you wanted was love.
And to me and my sister, to your grandchildren, you showered us with love.
Thank you for that.
I will miss being able to hug you and hear you speak but I know that you are closer to me than ever now.
When I’m sad I feel your energy surround me and hug me.
I know you’re still watching out for us like that protective mother you always were.
May you find peace.

Looks good enough to eat, right?! The sad reality is that while it didn’t even have to be produced in the first place, it could’ve at least been eaten by people in need, livestock, etc.

BUT it was instead declared WASTE 🥺

Composting is great because it allows us to redefine this “waste” as a valuable feedstock. But a lot of money and resources are lost even with composting as a viable and environmentally-friendly recovery strategy. To salvage some of this loss, we sell the finished product as a carbon sequestering, water retaining, and nutrient-capturing soil medium (that also helps your plants grow like crazy).

THUS by applying it to the land, we help to regenerate our soils, which subsequently improves our air/water quality, and provides us the opportunity to eat truly healthy food. It’s hard to put a price on that! 🌎💫

It’s not everyday that fashion designers happen upon your farm and decide they want to have a shoot with a famous rapper there. But a couple weeks ago that’s exactly what happened.

We’ve got 6.5 acres, plenty of trees and quite frankly a low key jungle vibe. We’ve seen nature ranging from the usual lizards 🦎 and snakes 🐍 to a coyote 🐺 . And heard some interesting sounds at night.. 👽

Circular Economy class is back in session!!

Honest truth is I almost declined teaching this semester (I’ve got a lot going on at the moment!) But I’m glad I said yes to my second go round teaching “Principles of Circular Economies and Ecotechnologies” to doctoral students at Mexico’s progressive Earth & Life University. It’s the only doctoral level, Spanish speaking program on circular economies in the world!

My class includes students from Mexico, Colombia and El Salvador and even includes a congressman and a lady seeking her third (yes that was a “3rd”) doctorate!

These guys are serious change makers, movers and shakers and they’re all trying to better our world. Happy to be part of this kick a$$ team!
