‼️ HELP!! Experienced home needed! 🐾

My most recent foster dog Effie is in desperate need of a home.
We had to move her from us last week and she had another foster home lined up but in all the confusion of moving she became very fearful and the rescue felt that she couldn’t be placed there.

It breaks my heart that this lovely girl is now in kennels 💔

She needs a quiet home, no children, no other dogs and someone who understands fearful dogs and can help her overcome those fearful emotions.

Currently based in Swindon, Wiltshire.

Please message me for more details.

Please share this post. Let’s get this girl a home! 💕

Effie is a typical puppy with lots energy and is still getting use to the big outside world and would really benefit from puppy training classes in her forever home. Effie would love to be an only dog in the home with children over the age of 16 so that her forever family can provide her with the 1-...

The RSPCA are looking for animal owners affected by fireworks to report it. There are always so many animals in distress as a result of fireworks but no one has ever collated this information to take it further.

Personally I love fireworks but I hate how they have become so widely available and seem to be louder and bigger every year. I’m sure there must be a compromise that can be reached.

STOP PRESS: The RSPCA reporting log has gone live. Please use it to report any problems you have with fireworks/animals as the government need facts and figures before they take any action. Up to now there have been no official figures because no one is collecting and collating the information. This is an official RSPCA initiative to provide government with the information they need.

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/TKWMJJC

Although it may look like a one off survey it CAN and should be completed EVERY time an animal is affected by fireworks. You can complete it as many times as you need.

We understand that you may want to check it is bona fide before completing so you can find it on the RSPCA website. From their main page https://www.rspca.org.uk/ go to the menu and select:

* Get Involved
* Campaign
* Fireworks

Then Scroll down the page until you see the green box with "share your story" (almost at the bottom of the page). Click on the "share your fireworks story" button to begin.

You can see the RSPCA privacy notice at the bottom of their page.

This super little lad arrived as a foster 2 weeks ago. He’s just 4 months old.

He’s so smart! We’ve mostly worked on calmness and learning to chill but he’s also learnt a few other things already…. ❤️🐾

Who’s up for a challenge?

If you love playing games with your dogs then you will be excited to hear that Absolute Dogs are upgrading their Sexier than a Squirrel challenge!

In March 2020 they launched the online challenge to help get us through lockdown. Full of 25 fun games to train with our dogs it was a huge hit with owners and trainers all over the world.

It’s now coming back in an even bigger and better version than before! On April 26th they are releasing an upgraded version which will include new, geeky content! The challenge will begin all over again for everyone to work through together. There will be more live teaching and the Facebook community will be buzzing.

If you already have the challenge you will automatically get the upgrade. If you want to join in for the first time, as one of their Pro Dog Trainers and affiliates I am able to offer you the course along with lifetime membership into the Love and Paws student Facebook group, where you will be with like minded students who will be playing along too.

The challenge costs just £27 and the course is yours forever! Click on the link below to sign up and join in the fun 🐶

I am currently fostering this lively lad.

*****Please share to help him ❤️🐾*****

He needs a great home either on a farm or with someone who has an outdoor job that can take him with them to work. He gets frustrated at home and loves being outdoors. He hasn’t taken well to being a pet dog.

At 6 months old he needs a lot of training input to help him use his smart brain appropriately.

Imagine you take your young child out for a walk or a play in the local park. How would you feel if everyone around you, young or old wanted to come over and say ‘hi’ to your child. It might seem a little strange right? You want your child to have a nice, relaxed time without too much interaction from everyone else that might be around them. They learn to quietly accept the presence of others whilst they learn in their own space. And I doubt you’d be taking them yourself to go and meet everyone..

Yet this is what many people do with their dogs. Common thinking is that in order for dogs to be well socialised they need to ‘meet’ lots of different dogs. Well, actually they don’t!

“But dogs are social beings” is a phrase I’ve heard people use. Humans are a social species too, but wouldn’t it be a little weird if we had to shake the hand of or hug and chat to every stranger that passes us by? Typically we acknowledge strangers with a “good morning” or a nod and a smile as we walk by. And we certainly wouldn’t make a point of seeking out people to go and acquaint ourselves with.

Our dogs don’t need to meet and greet lots of other dogs either.

Socialisation is all about safe, controlled exposure to different environments and experiences through positive interactions.

Training should involve exposing your dogs to different toys and objects through play using different surfaces and textures, walking in and experiencing different environments but without forced interaction with anyone.

A dog that seems to need to greet everyone is one that is often unsure and feels the need to ‘check them out’ to see they are not a threat or to show others that they themselves are nice. If this is repeatedly allowed it forms into a habit. What they need to learn is that it actually it’s ok to carry on by and they are none of my business.

With our children we teach them skills at home through play and interaction together, we take them out and about to experience life, but we choose their playmates and who they interact with to help them learn with as little risk as possible.

Let’s do the same for our dogs 🐶

Working on disengagement.

Our current foster pup finds the other dogs in the house way too exciting! So we are having short bursts of time together where he can learn that it’s fun to come away from them.

He is beginning to realise that there is value in moving away from them 🐶

A secure field is a great way to safely have some off lead fun with your dogs.

I love how our dogs feel confident enough to run and explore a little but that they also love hanging out with us.

Having some enrichment in the field is fantastic as it helps us work on skills like confidence, focus and proximity whilst also being really great for balance, coordination and fitness!

Paws up is a great game and is useful for many things.

Here Arlo is going through the steps to help build up to some nail care. He has learnt paws up in other places and now he’s applying that to the nail board.

Initially he’s hesitant as it’s something new but he quickly starts to get the idea. We will build up to him scratching at the board which will file his nails nicely.

Boundaries and calmness bring easy going dogs ⭐️

🥰 Simona hasn’t done much formal boundary training really but gets all her enrichment on a boundary of some sort.

Preparing supper last night and I thought I’d share how little attention the dogs pay me even when there’s cheese 🧀 involved! 🎉

A rather different day today! We woke up to snow ❄️ and I was determined to experience the fun along with everyone else.

Us Brits get way too excited at the sight of a sprinkling of the cold white stuff 😂
