The story of Quincy A715516

Meet Quincy who I’m currently fostering for June Taylor of One Voice 4 Paws
Quincy came to the Long Beach shelter as an alleged stray. I have a hard time believing Quincy wandered out on her own, since she could barely walk with the giant mass hanging from her abdomen. It literally banged against her legs and knocked her over. I would estimate its weight at about 2 pounds.
I picked her up from the shelter on Tuesday 2/28 and drove straight to the vet.
Dr Garcia at Little Paws Animal Hospital examined her, and showed me where the mass was ulcerating. She said we had to do surgery tomorrow. The mass was literally bursting. We did full labs to prepare for the surgery the next day.
Dr Garcia instructed me to keep her as quiet as possible, not to bathe her not to cause any trauma to the mass so it didn’t start bleeding. I had a sleepless night with Quincy in my lap making sure she was still and we had no problems until the morning. I was never so grateful for 8 AM to drop her off and know that she would then be safe. Her surgery included the mass removal, a spay and a dental. It was a big day for this little girl, but she needed all of these things and of course you don’t want to put them under twice. I picked Quincy up at 5 o’clock on Wednesday and home we went. She had only been with me overnight, but was really happy to see me. I tell every dog I pull from the shelter, “I’ve got you, you’re safe no one will ever hurt you again. “
Somehow, they always believe me.
We came home and Quincy fought sleep. Every time her eyes closed she jerk them open again. Finally at 1 AM she gave up the ghost and went to sleep. She hadn’t wanted any food or water that night. The next morning she ate, took her meds and seemed happy to just rest. For the last couple of days, all systems have been go. She’s eating she’s drinking, peeing and pooping! Everything you would want after a surgery. I don’t think she can believe that that thing is gone. She can walk without falling down. She couldn’t even get into a dog bed because it would catch on the lip and she’d have to drag it in. It was a horrible thing to witness and she’s had that mass for a very long time. It did not get to that size overnight. So right now she’s very comfortable, especially compared to what she must have endured for probably years. We are waiting for the pathology to come back and pray that the mass is benign. Whatever the results we will deal with that when they come for now she is comfortable and happy, and receiving the love and care that she deserves.
I want to say thank you to Chris L Hawkes for bringing her to the publics attention. To Penny Cooper for networking her, to Ellen A Lopez for helping facilitate her rescue. A huge thank you to June Taylor for saving her and allowing me to be part of this beautiful girls journey. Also a big thank you to Dr. Garcia for realizing her immediate need for surgery and doing an amazing job to save this little girls life.
Thank you Village for your continued support. We couldn’t do it without you.
A donation of any amount towards her surgery and continued medical care would be greatly appreciated.
